We are just friends, not very close but we were planning on going to a very fancy/nightlife type of place.

It's hard to say for sure, since I don't know the full context or dynamic between you guys. But to me it sounds like he might be flirting or shooting his shot a little bit.

A few possibilities:

- He was joking around and trying to give you a compliment, saying you look good and other guys will notice you. Kinda a backhanded compliment type thing.

- He could actually be interested in you himself and didn't want you catching other guys' attention at the party/event you're going to.

- Or he might just be looking out for you and warning you to be careful if you dress too flashy, since those kinds of places can attract creeps sometimes.

Hard to say which it is without knowing you both better. But I'd take it as a bit of an opening if you're interested in him at all. Could be a signal to flirt back and see where it goes.
