Why do bookstore employees where aprons?

Carrying books around can get one's clothes dusty and dirty from the paper and ink.

If there is cafe it’s to avoid spills. My bookstore at college had no cafe si we didn’t have to wear aprons

Its because it has front pockets with a notepad and pencil for logging down damaged and deteriorated books along with other notes. It's also a matter of looking professional.

Older books have dust and mites in them, and the covers would get your clothes dirty after handling hundreds of them.
