Does my friends have a crush on me? Advice?

We have been friends for going on 4 years. He is an awesome person. We are in a religious strict environment so I never have alone time with him because my friends are always with me and his friends as well and we try not to break that. We have had a couple of moments where we were alone, and I feel that is when he has tried to take his chance and indirectly flirt with me but I am not the most clever girl when it comes to flirting. -He has sat next to me and tried to have small talk about my favorite band (which I knew he didn't like) so I ignored and redirected.-We were hanging out at an arcade with our friends and he asked me what games I wanted to play took the card and took me to go play them.-he is constantly checking up on me because he knows I am having a hard time mentally. -One time held my hand romantically until one of my friends saw and she got in between and made it a team handshake (lol). He is super sweet and always making sure that I am alright when all of us are hanging out. He is constantly giving me compliments 24/7 and cheering me on. He gets extremely protective and close to me when we are out in public where its like he wants everyone to know we are together. (but we aren't). We hang out all the time as a group but I notice that when we don't for a while he gets annoyed or will get more attached when we do again. He talks about how glad he is that I am in his life and how much he loves that he met me. Today we were talking about where we would be in life if we never met each other and he goes "I don't want to think about that, because I am glad that I met you, and I would be sad if I never met you in this lifetime". I don't know maybe I am just reading it wrong and he is just that great of friends we are. What are the signs that I should be looking for to make sure? Advice?
