Is this a common way of girlfriends to flirt or was I just dense for not noticing?

So I almost never wear shorts. I wear pants literally all the time throughout the whole year. I only really wear shorts on rare days where it's literally that hot that pants would be torture.

Up till recently my girlfriend had only seen me in pants. When I wore shorts in front of her for the first time she was like woah this is the first time I've ever seen you wear shorts! I couldn't tell if she meant it in a good or bad way but she seemed surprised.

Anyway. In this case the length of the shorts is somewhat relevant. They were 7 inch inseams. A little on the shorter side but not super short. They hit above 2-3 inches above my knees but do ride up to about mid-thigh or slightly higher when sitting.

I've noticed my girlfriend casually glancing at my thighs whenever I wore shorts, especially when I sat down and they rode up to show more thigh. They were somewhat subtle quick glances but I noticed. When she was saying something flirty to me she'd glance slightly longer for like 2-3 seconds. And she never did this when I wore pants.

In my mind I saw these as judgmental glances. Like she thought my shorts were too short and she disapproved of the length and it was distracting to her in a bad way.

One day I asked it to her straight if my shorts were too short and she said no fucking way my shorts are perfect as is and that I could even go a little shorter if I wanted to. And I asked her about all the glancing she did and she said "those were flirty glances you dummy! The same way you like checking out my thighs I like checking out yours. I thought you realized it yourself."

And just wondering. Is this a common way for girlfriends to flirt or was I just being dense for not noticing? Like the way I described it do you think it was obvious she was flirting with me?
