Do you think my old high school classmate was interested, or was he just being friendly?

I recently ran into a guy I knew from high school. We’re the same age and already follow each other on social media, but we haven’t really interacted much in person.

When he saw me, he said something like, “Oh, I haven’t seen you in a while.” He also mentioned that he’d seen me there before. (I actually had never seen him before there, until that day)

We started talking, and he brought up a recent post I made about graduating. He asked what I studied, what I planned to do next, and I told him about my plans for professional school and that I had received a full scholarship for my program. He also asked where I was currently working, and I explained that I was only working part-time while studying for my admissions exam.

I ended up mentioning that I saved my graduation money to use for my applications and he says "Oh so you had a party, and didn't invite me?" I laughed and told him I only had dinner with my immediate family.

I had to return to his workplace the next day to pick something up (not to be a stalker, it was a prescription). He wasn't there. Afterward, I messaged him jokingly about our interaction, and how I missed seeing him. He told me it was his off day.

For guys especially: if you ran into a woman you knew from high school and asked her this many questions about what she’s doing now, would that usually mean you were interested in her, or could this easily just be friendly curiosity/catching up?

I am interested in him, so I know I could be reading more into the interaction than was actually there. When I text him I'll be playful and somewhat flirty but I don't get much back. He will engage in conversation but nothing else. I'm a bit confused... he's more forward in person than via text.
