Don Draper, from Mad Men, why is he so appealing to women?

I hear from all different types of women, that watch the show Mad Men, that Don Draper is so hot, sexy, dreamy. I find this funny because the same actor played on the show 30 Rock and yet no one found him attractive ... in fact they found him unattractive.

Why are women so attracted to Don Draper, the character? Sure, he's a high-powered advertising executive. But look at him as a character, he cheats on his wives nonstop, he never spends time with his child, and he lies to and seduces women nonstop. Why would that be a desirable mate to a woman?

I'm a huge Mad Men fan.

Jon Hamm IS sexy. I don't remember him on 30 Rock. I mean, I know he was on it, but his character must have been so bland that I've forgotten him.

Don is given just enough of a heart to be likeable. Men like him too. As opposed to say, Pete, who more of a creep and everyone hates.

I don't think women really want to be WITH Don Draper. They just find themselves cheering for him to get his shit together. As far as sexual attraction -- the clothes are very stylish and he is well spoken. That stuff makes a difference on whether someone looks good or not.

Take Elisabeth Moss who plays Peggy, for instance. She was pretty homely at the beginning of the season, but when they put her in that sexy dress when she was parading in front of her lover Ted, she looked pretty hot. So Jon Hamm's clothes and charm in this show as opposed to 30 Rock make a difference... not that women are drawn to assholes.

when you watch show that is set in a different time or world, the characters are often judged by the standarts of the world they're placed in.

It's in the 60s or 50s? Either way, it's a different time. I don't think he's that attractive physically or characterwise but he's also not a completley terrible person. He does have his moments. Now obviously I wasn't alive back then, but the show made it seem like cheating, sexual harrasment and all that stuff was terribly common at the time. And from what I know marital rape and domestic violence were not a crime. In that context, he's not a totally terrible husband, he has things that make him desirble and if I ws his wife I'd think I could have done a lot worse.

Not to mention as the lead character of the show he's made to be likeable just as henry the 8th in the Tudors

Don't listen to women's claims about what they're theoretically attracted to. Look at whom they're actually attracted to.

Don Draper is rich, powerful, and basically a strong, assertive, anti-feminist, politically incorrect man. Women like that.
