Learning to cook is an invaluable skill that everyone should learn as food and eating is a huge part of everyone's life and survival in this world. It can be intimidating for some to take on the challenge of learning. Some people lean on this idea that if mom or dad didn't teach them growing up, they can't learn, but that's clearly not true. Anyone can learn to cook. The thing is, you don't have to learn to be a professional cook. That's not everything cooking is about. Making breakfast for your kids, or being able to make a nice bowl of soup on a hot day for yourself can be your goal.
My advice is to start with something basic like a scrambled egg or learning to make pancakes from scratch. There are literally hundreds of beginner cooking book series, some even made for kids (hence anybody can do it), that break down recipes literally step by step, picture by picture, so you don't go into it blind. You can also check out any number of box food delivery meal kits that send you all the ingredients you need in the box, instructions, and some even have video links to walk you through how to make the food.
Another great resource is the internet. So so so many food channels exist for the very beginner to the tippy top expert. Watch these type of videos all the way through so you can see start to finish what all you need to do, gather all your ingredients, and then try a recipe when you aren't tired, stressed, or in a bad mood because that can affect your first experiences with cooking.
If you do have friends or family that do know how to cook, ask them for help too! Many will be more than willing to show you how to make something especially if you are motivated to learn.
Remember though, with literally everything you learn....as a beginner, you are going to make mistakes, you are going to fail, you are going to burn something, cut something, add too much salt that one time, but that is how you learn! If you mess up one meal, try again and try again until you get it to where you like it. You don't have to be perfect. Skills take a long time to master, but above all else, give yourself patience and grace when taking on the challenge of learning to cook.

Thank you, this was really inspiring. I've been feeling insecure about not knowing how to cook. I mean I know it's not a woman's responsibility to cook or anything, but I feel like I want to be able to cook for my family if i ever have one, and like most girls my age I sort of missed that boat. I've dated a few guys who could cook pretty well and it was embarrassing that I couldn't. I've just never taken it seriously. This inspired me to try to learn. Thank you.
I really hope you do. I certainly don't believe it's "a woman's place" to cook, but we literally all eat food, so learning to cook, even for yourself is such an invaluable tool. Just as I said, give yourself the grace to fail as it's all part of the learning process for everything in life, and start small with something simple and work from there. Good luck to you!
Thank you so much!
I want to learn to cook more. I can only make omelette omg :D
Lucky for you, you live in the internet age where there are so many youtube cooking channels and cooking sites at your fingertips that can help you learn. Good on you for being able to make an omelet. There are some who can't do that, so you are already ahead of the game!
