Should fresh blueberries smell like vinegar after a week in the fridge?

Someone gave me a gallon bag of blueberries, they've been in the fridge for a week. They smell like vinegar.
I'm not new to fresh fruit and have never had berries do this before. I threw them away, wouldn't even let the birds have them. Theyre not fermenting, as I've forgotten about berries before. I'm not sure what happened. But the person who gave them to me hates me. I didn't eat many of them and didn't get sick but I found it strange they smell like vinegar.
