Is alcohol an acquired taste?

Probably just a taste person like me
I like drinking, I like the taste of a lot of drinks. I don't like the taste of every drink and there's a lot of popular should out there that does not taste good to me
When I get a cocktail I want to be made correctly so that it tastes right. I don't just drink to get fucked up. A lot of people say they like a certain drink not because it tastes good, but because it's their drink of choice for getting fucked up. The most palatable one for them to reach their goal.
But yea, I actually like the taste of Jack and Coke with 2 limes made to the proper measurements. One quarter jack to 3 quarters coke over ice. Two limes.
Dos equis with fresh lime is good. The lime changes the overall taste in a good way. As for wine I'm a Cabernet and Red Blend sort of guy. Some white wines I enjoy but overall those two reds.
Not big on pinot noir, merlots, or chardonnays.
Try "Stationmaster" brand. The Cabernet version. A good wine overall od recommend someone try
You blaspheme ageist vodka, clearly never had Blue Lagoon cocktail best thing in the world.
But i mean alcohol is quite literally just a form of poison so if you don't like it your a human with normal senses lol. I don't like alcohol other than Vodka and all the mixes than can be done with it and Gin for very same reasons all the different flavours and stuff.
All the brown and black stuff with no fun ain't for me though nor wine or any kinda thing outside those 2 really. Tiki Mango and Pineapple Rum by captain morgan is the only rum i can stand.
Tbf though you get me drinking and i will just drink for the sake of it. But also tbh i don't drink unless if am gonna at least try to get drunk. Which is not often since i don't have much of a social life.
Also the only time i've ever felt like death after drinking since i don't get hangovers normally or anything is due to dragon soops energy drinks premixed 8% alcohol. Drink a couple and your all kinds sick for the next day. But they are nice lmao. Me and my bestfriend tend to get those if we feel like spending a lot to get drunk since they kinda expensive especially compared to just one bottle of vodka and some mixers then that bottle can last for a different day.
I hate beer and most of the other alcohols and they taste like alc. and I wanna puke
But there is one wine that tastes good for alc. and a good mixture of wodka with fruits is also good to me and like sometimes I would really love to have a sex on the beach
And yes I did trink a few years ago and I do like to drink sometimes but like the last time was this February soo yeah
I hate the smell, taste and burn. Some people must really need liquid courage to drink that stuff. I’ll continue to have “fun” without the need for that speed
And it sucks because im so naturally hyper that people ask if im drunk or do drugs to stay relaxed. Like not everyone needs that stuff. Im just naturally bubbly

To some. To others not so much. I like mixed drinks where you cannot taste the alcohol. I went through some dark times during college where I was drinking very heavily, so now I don't really drink much. I do enjoy wine. Hate beer. But I can and do have a good time without alcohol.
If I could taste a sweet Wine I might like it, I'm on so many medications I got to be careful though some people take meds and drink, I don't know what to think I know this woman had a possible blood clot and a bad heart, She made a remark she would go to my cousin's wedding if it killed her, She called her doctor he told her to go to the Hospital if she thought the possible blood clot but she decided not to well she
came home from the wedding late at night, made a pizza for her and her son
they ate then went to bed the next morning he was 11 years old tried waking
her up she passed away yes very sad.
@Cherry234 Yes, it sure was sad and he was young
Defiantly an acquired taste. The first time I drank a beer I thought it tasted like carbonated vinegar. The first time it tried bourbon it burned so badly that I went into a coughing fit. my first Scotch whiskey tasted like iodine.
Mixed drinks, such as an Old Fashioned- which is a bourbon-based cocktail, is much smoother than straight bourbon. The risk here is that a drink like a Singapore Sling, which is primarily gin based, is so smooth that you can easily lose track of how many you are drinking.
I happen to enjoy fine whiskey, but I never encourage anyone to drink. Make your own choices.
I like alcohol, I've always liked alcohol fron the very first sip i ever had at 5. I don't really drink much at all these days, but I do enjoy it when i have it. I think for many its an acquired taste, but thats also dependent on the kind of alcohol, spirits tend to be very strong and harsh, wines can be acidic, and there are some god awful beers out there. But i think there is an alcoholic drink to suit all tastes it's just a case of finding your match.
Its actually legal in the UK for children aged 5 and up to drink alcohol at home with parents consent. I think it was probably a sip of a family members drink i had at Christmas just to try it out. But i remember havig wine with meals, which is also legal in the UK at licensed premises, it was usually watered down a little with sparkling water. We always had wine with meals when we went on holiday too.
I think generally when exposed to something early in life it stops it becoming a taboo and craved thing. Despite liking alcohol i never started drinking a lot when I turned 18 because it wasn't a new and exciting thing, so i never went through that getting hammered as soon as you turn 18 thing that so many people do.
I love th taste of martinis, ales, pilsners, whiskey, and red wine. I don't drink for improvemed health. If I didn't have to worry about it affecting weight Id be drinking IPAs and Pilsners daily. Troegs Nugget Nectar you as much favorite. For cheap beer I liked Busch
Yes. I’ve never really acquired it. My father drinks all kinds of spirits and I can’t stand it. He offers to share me frequently and I normally don’t accept it. It just tastes like paint thinner. I’ll drink a little to feel a buzz and that’s it.
Beer however tastes very good.
A lot comes down to finding ones you like.
for example whiskey is not the same, it’s differs hugely.
i like Islay Malts which are peaty, my mate likes the milder Speyside malts, two totally different malts.
like wine, reds, whites, countries etc all so different.
Have you tried a good gin and tonic?
Really worth a go.
Say Hendricks Gin and fever tree tonic.
If any Gin bars then try one
i think there's that aspect to it but also some genetics. some people are more prone to enjoy the rush that this drugs gives them. you can actually measure that. some people get higher pulse after they drink a little bit. if you are like that, you gotta be careful around alcohol, cause those people are very prone to addiction.
i don't like alcohol at all. i only rarely drink it cause it deactivates my pesky inhibitions at the cost of making me nauseous xD
Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. You could think most drinks are nasty and then find some drinks that are like drinking WATER to you while other people choke on them and can't take it. It's weird like that. And you only find out by tasting stuff.
But I'm glad I never really needed to pay $8+ for a drink. Not really my thing.
I wouldn't encourage drinking on a regular basis. It's highly addictive, most of it tastes like shit or piss. I've known so many bright people that got hooked on that shit and ended up in rehab and going to AA pity parties over it.
Stay away from the booze. Smoke weed instead
I used to drink quite a lot until I started smoking and eating weed, and now I barely touch alcohol and my liver has been thanking me for the little break that I'm giving it. I mean sure weed isn't 100% healthy either but it is a much better alternative for me.
As far as taste goes... It really depends on what type of alcohol you are consuming, or what it's mixed with if anything.
It can be for certain people. I enjoy it personally depending on the taste. I don’t really get drunk unless there is something to celebrate. I prefer tequila/ whiskey over beer/ wine, I’m not ripping shots but sipping on something cold after a long day does the trick
Alcohol will probably make you feel like throwing up the first time you smell or taste it, and that is your body's natural reaction to the introduction of toxins. Alcoholic drinks really are an "acquired" taste. You kind of have to force yourself the first few times with most of them.
Well that's the thing about liquor and alcohol the more you drink the better they taste because the drunker you get.
I can drink pretty much anything. I don't drink anymore because I became something of a alcoholic but when I did drink I did it all the time with every liquor and beer.
Well I'm 46 and I still don't care for most of it. I mean there are a few I've liked by generally they are considered "girly" drinks with a 10th of the alcohol content.
I had this pumpkin pie flavored moonshine a friend of mine made at a New Years eve party. I absolutely loved that.
Whiskey is definitely an acquired taste. I find scotch to be harsh unless it's naturally aged for at least 12 years in a wooden barrel. Bourbon was, for quite a while, my drink of choice for hard liquors. Drambuie is boiled down scotch but that seems to make it smoother.
i'd say wine is for the most part, but for liquor if you don't like it you likely won't change in my opinion.
But i have a feeling you may like the more fruity drinks where you can't even really taste the alcohol
I have to say, I do enjoy it but not in a sense that I have a lust for it. I have maybe a shot of hard or mixed. One a day but when I'm at work during the week. Nothing. My father was an alcoholic but was a funny non voilent one. It killed him but there is always this fear that I may crave it. I dont crave it but drink socially.
it can be start with sweet wines and cocktails and then experiment with others when you are used to those. some are so good you forget it's alcohol (long island iced tea) so be careful of that, especially around boys
I would agree. I rarely drink alcoholic beverages and when I drink them, they have to be part of a meal. For example a heavy meat dish with a matching red wine. Or in summer it’s nice to have a cold beer with your lunch or dinner.
Good point! Really love that you put up this topic!
In my opinion! Alcohol tastes real bad until you get used to it and create all those small details in your mind why it could or does taste good in some way or the other ^^
I sort of assume people swallow it down for the effects rather than savor the taste. However, beer drinkers are still a mystery to me considering they're not high in ethanol like rum or whiskey.
Yes, it is for the most part. For me whiskey and rum was an acquired taste. Vodka was easier despite still being sharp and bitter. Depends a lot on your taste
I think it is acquired, I still don't like wine to this day, beer tastes like piss, rum is probably my favorite after champagne. Vodka is too strong, I can't handle it.
From what I've heard, yes. That's what everyone I know has told me. (Though, once they get hooked, they're hooked.)
@Cherry234 Right. The problem is that it's a slippery slope, and the line between not being addicted and being addicted is grey and somewhat blurred.
I’ve been drinking it for years and I still always dislike it 🤷🏽
The trick is to simply be fast. Throw in 5 shots in a minute or 20 and taste doesn’t matter anymore
If I’m not tryna be drunk, I certainly don’t drink 😅
I think so but one great note is that quality dictates taste and price generally follows both of those
N. b. Given I'm about to buy a bottle of 26 year old single malt for £400, I follow that fully
I can't take any of the ones you listed straight up, I gotta have it mixed with something. I would say for stuff like that its an acquired taste. For me, if it has alcohol in it, if it does not taste good, im not interested.
Yes most alcohol is an acquired taste. I've been serving it since I was 18 and I still cannot stand much of it.
Well they shouldn't be tasting good, because then you drink to much. Most drinks for the buzz not because of the taste.
Only taste I had to acquire was beer. I hated it the first time I tried it. Fruity drinks I can down like they're water.
It is but there are some fruity drinks that taste good right away. You may try Archers Peach Scnapps.
I don’t know about all alcohols but I know wine is an acquired taste, at least red wine is an acquired taste
Yes it is. I love the taste of most drinks but hate being drunk so I just sip them to enjoy the taste without having to get drunk.
That's great if you don't like the taste. Personally, I DO like it and I tend to drink a bit more than I should... LOL
Mixed drinks taste a whole lot better. Pretty much every alcohol tastes bad when it’s straight.
Yes, best way to experience it is don't drink the cheap bottom shelf trash. Mixed drinks are probably your best bet to try it and building a tolerance.
I don't know why people drink wine, booze and beer, just seems nasty and i've been around people who drink and then act like ass clowns. I'll stick to water, milk and juice.
I've tried one or two but I've never liked the taste, I don't get the appeal. I don't plan to try any of the other ones either, can't imagine they'd be any better.
I don't drink either luv, it doesn't tastes good to me too
I think it’s one of those things where your tastes change as you get older. I was the same way.
Depends on the alcohol. I think everyone could enjoy a nice daiquiri or a piña colada. Other drinks like liquors and even beer I think are more acquired tastes.
I have alcohol about twice a uear without getting drunk. When I was in mu early 20s, getting drunk was every other weekend.
I dont like alcohol or any other drugs or medication trips.
I think it is an acquired taste. I don't drink often but I do like my beer once in a while. Very rarely ill do a shot of j. d. or Johnny walker, usually when I'm sick.
Nope. It's slow poison and actually worse than smoking.
The only disease sold in bottles.
I'm Irish. I was born loving whisky. On ice or with club soda.
I’m the same exact way. Every once in a while I’ll have vodka and cranberry, but I’ve gone years without drinking.
In my experience it's a learned taste at first it will taste bad but it will start to taste better over time
It most definatly is. I didn't like alcohol in the past and these days it's a mixture of taste, stressrelief and relaxation to get comfortable with a glass of whiskey.
Sometimes people are coaxed into liking certain tastes…but I went through several bottles of wine and scotch to find the types I like. I’m very particular.
Yes, and it's very easy to acquire. Not because the drinks are particularly pleasant (nobody drinks non-alcoholic beer) but because alcohol is highly addictive.
yes I dislike most alcoholic drinks. I had some beer samples at a tour of a brewery didn’t like them. Had whiskey samples at a distillery tour they were ok but I didn’t really like that either
Some are an acquired taste. For instance I don't care for tequila but the wife can drink it like a fish. Also she doesn't care for stout beer but that's what I drink if I have beer.
Just have to spend some time practicing sipping them to appreciate the flavours and complexities
It truly is I only drink strawberry daquarius or ice blended margaritas that are strawberry or lemon flavored. I can't do straight alcohol 🤮
I would say so. There are a few different drinks, that took my a bit to adjust to as well
Yes beer tasted like carbonated horse piss but I'll learn to love it.
I mean if you drink Coors of course it does. lol
Pabst Blue Ribbon?
Drink better quality whisky and rum ^°^
Its not possible to compare beer and a good alcohol
Try mixed drinks, margaritas, pine coladas, sweet wine like sangria good luck
Maybe wine but alcohol itself has very little Taste.
