+1 yMany veggies come prewashed. But some like beets, potatoes and definitely leeks need a wash or quick rinse. Leeks grow in Sandy soil and sand gets trapped in the layers, so unless you want sandy grit in your food they need to be soaked and rinsed after you split them or chop them. Some fruits have recommendations to wash before eating such as strawberries, grapes and blue berries. Like you, I don't wash everything.

1.7K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I'm not a germophobe at all. But I still wash anything I'm going to eat raw and some things I plan to cook.
My main thing is, most produce is treated with chemicals/poisons during growing and/or processing. I don't want to eat that shit.
You never know who had handled it.
Bugs or vermin may have walked, pooped or urinated on it in the warehouses.
And invisible things like bacteria, fungus or parasites may have begun to grow on it.00 Reply
always. (non-organic: soak with vinegar and salt for 10 minutes then soak again in clean water for another 10 minutes, and rinse again and then you're done.)
but for organic ones, i definitely just wash it for 3 times.01 Reply

+1 yI do, though some things could do without it like if it’s fully packaged. I have a routine to wash everything as I unpack the groceries then move them into the storage containers so it just seems easier to do it all

Generally no I don’t wash my fruit or veg, unless like you’ve mentioned they appear visibly dirty. If I’m cooking vegetables in water, they’ll rinse themselves anyway. The only veg I will wash if using are leeks, as they have many layers like an onion and can trap dirt.

+1 yGenerally, no; unless there's visible dirt or sand or such, I usually won't bother. Sure, there might be germs, but that's what I have an immune system for. And my days as a wandering dandelion eater mean I can identify most pesticides by taste; they've already done all the damage they're going to do to me.
00 Reply410 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. Not as often as I should but I do wash fruits and vegetables yes especially if I I see dirt but I really should do it more often especially if people who grow the stuff is using watered down Roundup it still matters

+1 yYes, never know where they have been before they got to you. You are depending on a lot of people to wash their hands after they go to the bathroom and rinse pesticides off them if you don't

I'm not big into cooking fruit. Most of it I eat raw or in a smoothie. I guess if it has a peel like a banana I wouldn't wash it.
