Do you think you will start hoarding food?

Biden has told us there will be food shortages. I have a cool, dry place in my cellar and we are already filling up the shelves with food. Mostly canned goods and other food that has a long shelf life.

I stockpiled food last summer and am adding to the stockpile again now. For people who think the US will be fine, be aware that fertilizer was already in short supply last year. The war makes the shortage acute. Worse, middle men like millers and grain elevators have been severely hurt by margin calls on their hedges, so even though grain is in high demand they are not offering lucrative contracts to farmers. This is an example of how our ultra-efficient supply chains cannot handle shocks to the system. We can expect not just the harvest in Ukraine and Russia to be reduced and hampered by sanctions, but also reduced yield in the US. A government that works for its people would impose export controls to make sure its people have adequate food, but the US government will let what is harvested go to the global market for the highest bidder. If you’re not upper middle class or elite, you will pay through the teeth for food by year end or possibly go without.

I have Commercial MRE that are similar to US Military MREs that expire in 5 years and I have Others that have a shelf life of 25 years. Best thing to do is get bags of rice, beans and other shelf foods that last long. I recommend sealing your food within buckets or something tightly sealed to keep moisture, pests away.


But I don’t suggest buying out items and hoarding them… give people a chance to buy food or other items, don’t be that person that takes everything up.

I filled our big freezer with meats back when prices were still "normal". I also hoarded laundry soap, TP, coffee, paper towels, dish soap, and canned food. My husband was rolling his eyes at the time, but not anymore! 😇

Even so clean water is always more of a issue than food.

Not yet. Food shortages worldwide are predicted because Russia is the world's number one exporter of fertilizer, especially to third world countries, and sanctions prevent that. There won't be shortages for several months, and the US has its own supply of fertilizer.

Even though conventional wisdom says that the US can feed itself just fine , Biden will figure out a way to screw it up.

Well we live off grid on a huge place in the mountains in Colorado but ever since that old guy started being treated for dementia at the white house while his handlers started screw things up we have expanded the garden to almost two acres and we're growing potato and wheat etc to survive and also got more power and water set up

Rats and mice absolutely hate peppermint. 😂yeah they pass on that mojito. Mother Earth has its own natural pest control. Nature takes care of itself.

We have quite a few things in storage already.
The secret to "hoarding" (planning for tomorrow, actually), is to do it a bit at a time. Then, it is much less likely to be discovered.

Being from a part of the country subject to natural weather events, I find that having a couple months food is simply standard intelligence. But when the power goes out every year there is still panicking from many… 🤷🏻‍♂️

No because they have a poor shelf life and I don’t wanna eat old food and get sick from it. How long can a can of beef raviolis last I’ve tasted stale raviolis before I hated it

Cans have to have an expiration date but they will last years after that. As long as the can is not bulging it should be okay. We found some canned peaches in an old abandoned home site in the desert and ate them and they tasted fine.
