Is a beer at a brewery more powerful?

I had four regular beer glasses at a brewery. Is that the equivalent of like eight or nine or at a normal place?

The ABV (Alcohol By Volume) will be the same in the brewery or on the shelf at the store.

Keep in mind that unlike wine of whisky, which are made better with aging, beer is at its best when it's new and fresh. Drinking a few glasses at the brewery likely had the beer at its peak of flavor, and you tasted the difference.

I mean I can handle a lot of drinks though but after four I felt like if I had five I might go from feeling tipsy to feeling bad

No, it's usually a bit stronger than American mass market lagers, and definitely stronger than "light" beers. Some ales are quite strong, above 10%, but not many. My favorite is "The Temptress" milk stout by Lakewood Brewing in Dallas. That's at 9%.

It can be engineered to have more of a punch than a can of beer. Some will really wipe you out.

Perhaps you had high gravity beer the brewers often brew high gravity beer which is 10% alcohol by volume they usually water it down to 5% by volume before bottling or canning it.

No, the beer has the same amount of alcohol as in the store. Unless you taste tested some special kind of brew with more alcohol.

Not really. The beer should be at the same potency level. It just took less time between being brewed and consumed by you.
