Irish apple cake is made with sliced apples has a crumbly topping and is usually served with custard.
Barmbrack is just a rip off of bara brith.😉 It's a dense tea flavoured cake loaf packed with dried fruit.
I think I'd prefer Irish apple cake.
For a St. Paddy's Day treat, my wife makes really good Irish bread pudding with a sweet sauce that contains whiskey. 😁
I know it well
Barmbrack reminds me of Texas Manor Fruitcake sold here during the Christmas holiday season. Eat one slice and it feels heavy, like a brick in my stomach. I’ll take the apple cake instead.
Barmbrack reminds me very much of the lovely Welsh Bara Brith, which I make and eat far too much of!
It's exactly the same thing
@purplepoppy
So it's quite simply a name difference only then?
Both names can be translated as speckled bread.

How very interesting... Thank you so much. x
I just want to know what I can have sex with.

I've had apple cake, never had barnbrack, though I'd like to try it. Maybe I'll see if the local Irish pubs have it on the menu for St Patty's Day.
I voted Barm.. bamra.. BarackObamaCake.
It sounds like fruitcake to me and I love fruitcake.
How about both? Do you know how to make these?
I've made Barmbrack countless times, although we call it bara birth its exactly the same thing. It's one of those fool proof recipes you learn as a small child.
Tough question, they both look great. At this time of year I'd go for the Barmbrack, and be looking forward to autumn for the apple cake.
Barmbrack sounds and looks delicious, thanks for suggesting. Irish apple cake looks a lot like Sharlotka, a Russian upside-down apple pie. I tried neither, but it seems barmbrack.
I will take some apple cake. Thankyou very much.
The Irish Apple cake, please.
Never had either, but I voted B if I was forced into trying one.
I think the apple cake sounds nice.
I would like the apple cake
never tried any of them
Irish Apple Cake, hands down
