My niece's dog - a Husky - has stolen items cooking on the grill several times, and at least once I KNOW the dog got burned in the process, because she yelped - but she still made off with some ribs. On other occasions she's stolen a burger and a couple of hot dogs. And inside the house, she's stolen bread/buns off the counter a couple of times.
MY dog will whine or bark, but she will not STEAL food like that, even unattended. She knows she'll eventually get something at the end of the meal, so she will wait, even if she won't let you forget.
I share with my dog so she doesn’t have to steal, but she sure does like to steal paper towels and rip it up. Seriously if is she is laying down near a ripped up paper towel, and you say her name she will look up at you giving you the look I did not do it
Our dog ate almost purely dog food cause we did not know if non canine food was acceptable for his body and species but we fed him steak when he was on the verge of dying from old age, as a thank you gift to his years as our pet dog. We only did that 1-3 times during his last few weeks on earth.

A lovely beef roast. He is led by his nose and can't help himself.
Baited the counter with food and put mouse traps all around. He tried to get it and triggered 1 trap that hit the next trap and the next one. He scared himself and ran away.
Now when he sees a mouse trap, he says clear. We don't even arm them, just put them on the counter in front of the food.
My wife’s childhood dog Fluffy stole the Thanksgiving Day turkey. The children, including my wife when she was 9 years old, blamed their dog Princess instead because her father had previously said if Fluffy does one more bad thing, she is out of here.
Never had our dog steal anything, BUT OLIVER my cat has robbed so many things, I have not kept track! Chicken! Avocado with olive oil, and just about anything he finds left out and unattended.
