Have you bought your Thanksgiving turkey yet?

No, I have not bought my turkey or Thanksgiving dinner stuff yet. I will be doing that this coming Sunday. But, I already have my turkey for Thanksgiving thawing in my fridge as the one I get on Sunday will be my turkey for Christmas dinner.

My sister will be cooking our Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts. Our menu is the same for both holidays.

For breakfast, we will have coffee and cinnamon rolls.

Then the snack trays will make their appearance. There will be a cracker tray, with Wheat Thins, Triscuits, Ritz, and Chicken in Biscuit crackers. A cheese tray, at last count, will have about 15 different flavored cheeses to choose from, as well as a ham and cream cheese ball. And sliced summer sausage. And then we also have a veggie tray that will have; mushrooms, baby carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, snap peas, red bell pepper, celery, and olives (both black and green).

For dinner, we will have roasted turkey, baked ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, yams, homemade cranberry sauce, and homemade rolls.

And if there is any room left in our stomachs for dessert there will be pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, no-bake cherry cheesecake, pecan pie, and either mincemeat or apple pie.

We live in Canada so our Thanksgiving is in October and we did not celebrate cause my parents returned from their trip to Europe around 5 days before Thanksgiving and caught Covid while they were there so there was no time to buy ingredients for Thanksgiving dinner and no right to invite others over or go to their houses either. My dad recovered quickly but my mom took longer.

My wife bought a 10 pounder from a local farmer who raises them humanely with no drugs or hormones.

We're going to make a traditional feast just for ourselves this year. Turkey, mashed potatoes (from our own garden), gravy, stuffing, my wife's famous baked yams (home grown) and home made cranberry sauce, organic canned corn, a really nice wine. Pumpkin pie for dessert, possibly accompanied by some Sheridan's in coffee or some port or dessert wine. I might even have some Armenian brandy later (I have an open bottle) but my wife doesn't care for brandy. It's a special occasion, after all.

I always look forward to Thanksgiving leftovers. 😃😋

We used to go to big feasts at a couple's house up to 2020. But they became Branch Covidians and unfriended us when they discovered that we didn't mask or get the clot shot. Refusing the experimental jab made us politically incorrect "anti-vaxers". LOL

We went to other people's homes in 2020, 2021 and 2022 where they were unjabbed and unafraid to shake hands, hug and be near fellow humans. But this year, we decided to stay home, celebrate the holiday with each other in our comfy home, and give thanks for our blessings.

We let the turkeys roam free around the house, they eat bugs, good birds. they can fly too... short distance.

I can only imagine the Biden bird cost...$60 a bird?

Turkey should be the national bird for the USA... it's fitting.

@lightbulb27. Ben Franklin wanted to make the turkey and not the eagle the national bird.
My father was stuck in traffic and saw a bunch of turkeys wandering around in the median strip. He got out of the car ans had a burlap bag he used to keep for just that occasion He grabbed one of those birds by the neck and got him in the sack before he knew what hit him. A couple of weeks later we had that bird for dinner. It rameally was not that great.

we don't have turkey for Thanksgiving. we used to a long time ago but even the juiciest turkey always seems rather dry and it's ginormous. nobody wants it. We instead cook quail game birds. they are always juicy! we just have to cook a whole bunch of them.

This isn't really related but I've got a question about that holiday. There's no Thanksgiving in my country but there's still Black Friday deals. I thought Black Friday was intrinsically tied to Thanksgiving- like, that they came hand in hand?

In America most people get the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday. It is about a month before Christmas and in America capitalism drives the bus. So the storekeepers made it a unofficial holiday dedicated to running up your credit cards
