Does it bother you that people don't wear gloves when making food?

You know gloves don't make food prep suddenly sanitary right?

The amount of complaints I've had just in a pub about me not wearing gloves for cutting a damn lemon or lime... Like chill I washed my hands... Which is infact more sanitary than using gloves!

1. UM noo, gloves do in fact protect dirty hands from contaminating food. This is NOT a myth. This is precisely why surgeons, who by law should have clean hands going into an operation room, still wear gloves so as not to infect you and you not to infect them. Life before glove wearing meant massive infections.

2. A customer just walking in who has not in fact witnessed you washing your hands, doesn't know whether you just scratched your @$$, sneezed on your hands, or you're hands are clean and since they are the customer buying the food/drink, it behooves them to try and ensure that they are not eating contaminated food. You should avoid taking this personally.

3. Whether you have gloves on or you're using your hands, the minute you go walking around touching door handles, and counters, and opening jars, and going to to back and sitting around putting your hair in a bun, and wiping tables, neither your hands or the gloves will remain sanitary. This is why it's important to dispose of them when you're done with food prep, and not just wear them around all day long an expect them to be clean. That is an operational error by the wearer not the gloves just magically being unsanitary on their own or your hands for that matter.

Not really, aslong as they’re not wearing rings/hand jewellery, and I can see that they’ve washed their hands before prepping my food. I work in food service, and although I don’t use my hands for much (I usually use tongs), I still wash my hands before prepping anyone’s food.

I worked in restaurants when I was your age and younger. If you wash your hands throughout your shift and are just dealing with the food itself? It's totally fine, as long as you're not unconsciously touching other things as you're working. If you're working in a small establishment where you're dealing with the cash register and handling the food? You need to wear gloves with one of those tasks, because money is one of the filthiest things we handle on a daily basis, along with our phones.

It is something that does my head in, someone wearing gloves will, because they have these mystical blue gloves, be able to make sandwiches, cut cheese, cut meat, use the till, you name it, they do it. Then they do the same thing with the next customer. I far prefer the place has decent sinks and staff are washing their hands, even then within reason. Now my local kebab shop that is a place of wonder.

Even if you scrubbed your hands meticulously, bad germs can be under your nails. Have you noticed that doctors and nurses working in an operating room scrub their hands AND ARMS thoroughly, yet still but on gloves after going through all that. There is a reason!

and, because of my weird mild germophobia... I actually dread to see people handling food with gloves on, lol...

because it makes me think that the place, the air, the surfaces... and every particle around are so dirty, that you MUST!!! wear gloves for A reason, and that makes me think it is all nasty

Oh you won't like my contribution however whenever I worked in jobs that had gloves, I wore them, and changed them regularly or if needed. Because I am a germ-freak merrily so 😋😅 and even if I overused the gloves, I'd happily pay for them even myself or tell the boss I'll pay / dock it from my pay 👍😛 I insist lol 😉😆

I was helping to make sandwiches to sell. Before helping I washed my hands and didn’t touch anything other than the food. A woman who was helping gave me the devil for not wearing gloves. Even though they didn’t have any gloves in my size.
But she was making sandwiches and handling the “clean “ money while wearing the same gloves!!! Hmmmm!

It reduces risk of contamination. Don’t forget the risk of food allergens.

Bars are a different story. Alcohol is a disinfectant. Lemon and lime juice tend to be inhospitable to microbiological growth.

As long as their hands are clean I prefer not to get micro plastics from latex gloves in my food. Use sanitiser every half hour ors when you're changing from meat to veg/salads and we'll be fine.

I never minded. In Japan even sushi chefs roll vinegar rice and handle raw fish with bare hands. Don't think germaphobes could survive here. 😅

Does not bother me one bit. Just wash your hands before and depending on what you are doing too. If it is going on the oven or something the heat will kill the germs too.

Not really. Unless they changed gloves every dish they made, the gloves get just as dirty as their bare hands would. It's better to not wear gloves and frequently wash hands.

Not at all I worked I restaurant for a year only times you wore gloves were cleaning with certain chemicals, loading up wood under the pizza oven and gutting/scaling fish
