I don't tip people who deliver food now - AITA?

For two years I asked my food delivery service repeatedly to have their delivery people ring my doorbell when they left food, and they said they would - and my doobell was NEVER rung despite repeated requests and putting it on my profile. All that time I left generous tips, but I finally got tired of tipping people who refused to honor a very simple request. So now, they leave the food, my recently upgraded security system now tells me they approached the door, and they get NO tips from me. Still no use of the doorbell.

don't feel like an asshole. tipping is optional. i don't tip anymore either unless someone is actively serving me, at a restaurant. save your money.

as for food delivery, those are a scam for your money. it's easier to just get it yourself, if you're able. people don't do anything right, i couldn't trust them getting the correct order, driving here, and then giving it to me and expecting a tip before i even see if my order is correct or not smashed.

another thing. if you want to tip in cash when they arrive, they see no tip added while delivering, so they don't give a damn about your food. so they wouldn't deserve the tip in the first place.

You have it backwards. Tell your neighbors you're going to get food. If they want any, they need to order through the app and text the pick up number to you.. Then deliver and collect tips. 😁 I have scored with a bakers dozen of hot out of the oven chocolate chip cookies and all sorts. You only need to time your dinner suggestion just right.

tipping is reserved for good service. it's not mandatory. some of these apps have the tip already included before you deliver, so there's no incentive to do anything but the minimum service provided. i think you are doing the right thing now. if the doorbell starts ringing though, have some cash on hand.

I stopped tipping in advance. It’s easy to modify the receipt to increase the tip after if they do a good job. You can’t take a tip back though.

Tipping SHOULD be optional and done for good service. We’ve kind of lost the plot now and people demand big tips for poor service or start freaking out. I’ve found myself using the apps less and less now.

Nah, I don't think so. Tipping culture has gotten a bit reckless in the last few years. And it's tough to justify tipping these people when they barely even do their job.

I don't ever have food delivered. I'm cursed when it comes to food delivery. Half the time my food is cold, or the order is wrong, or it takes forever, or all three. I'd rather just drive and spare myself the disappointment and aggravation.

I don't mind voluntary tipping. It's a nice way to reward someone for providing you with a good experience.

I don't know how tipping morphed into some expected bullshit that restaurants factor into their pricing, but that's not cool.

I get the jist of it mate , but there are too many hypocrital elements to it..
For example some dickhead owner will run 3 staff on a counter and pay $5 a hour , telling em there money will come from tips. I'm not from USA , so in Australia they are already paid the correct amount..
Some poor pleb in fast food gets nothing ..
Golf Caddies here Thailand.. manditory to take one , its all done on guilt , you are playing golf so you are rich , look at this poor woman ( nearly always a woman ) she could be the WORST caddy ever , you have to give 500 b , and its now considered part of the gig.
These are the Sht elements of what is a ludicrous system.. " This poor student " - " This poor lady " = guilt , ridiculous , does not encourage people to either go out , or play golf , just 2 examples.

I stopped tipping long ago and the service continues unchanged. Still no ringing of the doorbell, but many deliveries are left still on my doormat as before.

They deliver to bring up their acceptance rate so they can reach platinum level and be able to dash more. The drivers don't get paid to deliver to you, they pay out of their own pocket to deliver to you. You should be so proud.

For some people it is. A lot of people feel like companies are really starting to force customers to tip (and in some cases, they actually work a tip into the bill at the end on your receipt).
