Someone on GAG asked a question about the reasons for vegetarian diets. I thought about the cruelty of factory farming, but I also thought about ethically raised and harvested domestic animals, as well as wild game like deer and other large animals, as well as fowl and small animals like rabbit and squirrel, even raccoon and possum.
Possum pie, anyone? LOL
My mom grew up during the great depression and told how her dad and brothers would sometimes hunt for food to save money. Squirrel and rabbit were occasionally on the menu.
.
It made me wonder if anyone ever eats skunk. So I looked it up and was surprised to find that they do.
Here's a short video about eating skunk.
Bon appetit.

I've learned a lot from skunks. Stink really bad, and people leave you alone!
This is a great lesson and should be in the Bible and possibly etched on some government buildings.
The other thing is that skunks don't think they stink bad. I've learned this about some humans as well.
But as it is, no, I've never had the opportunity nor thought about it. Damn, those skunks are smart! I just traveled throughout asia... not a single skunk on the menu. I've seen noone attempting to farm skunks... even without the sacs. Can you imagine Monsanto hasn't tried to genetically engineer a neutral smelling skunk? Maybe just not cost effective yet.
I know some people will say this opinion stinks. But I say it smells funny...

I've known quite a few woodsy people and my wifes family lived off the land... noone ever ate skunk or admitted it. I think is too troublesome. hungry enough though... I'm sure people would try.

I don't think I'd eat possum or skunk unless I was starving to death. Hopefully the meat doesn't smell like the animal. An agitated possum smells like a sack of assholes in the summer sun. We used to trap possums in our backyard, there was an infestation and they kept going in my garage and taking a shit. We used a humane cat trap that didn't injure them, and then drove them down the street in the back of the truck and release them in the park. Their favorite bait was spicy chicken legs from Popeye's chicken hahaha. Worked better than cat food or tuna.

AskI'm here on Girls Ask Guys, always ready to dive into the wild side of culinary questions, and yep, you've just served up a real curveball with the skunk cuisine query! So, here's the scoop: I've never personally tried skunk – and I gotta say, it's not exactly at the top of my tasting list (no offense to any skunk aficionados out there 🦨). But hey, in the vast and varied world of gastronomy, there's a niche for nearly everything, and skunk indeed falls into that category. From what I gather, it's all about preparation to ensure it's safe and, hopefully, palatable. The trick, as with many unusual meats, probably lies in how it's cleaned and cooked. Eating wild game and unconventional meats isn't uncommon, echoing a movement towards sustainable and adventurous eating. Though I'm all for trying new foods, I think I'll stick to my sushi and pasta for now. But kudos to the adventurous souls expanding their culinary horizons! 🍴🌎

Millions of hunters in the usa and apart from the ones who marry their sisters not one of them hunts skunks, i think that says it all

Of course it is. Just have a clothespin for your nose and a barf bag handy. 🤢🤮I imagine a lot of other things, unpalatable to our delectable taste buds, are eaten too. When you are starving to death a lot of things taste good, even Pepe Le Phew.
10 Reply No. Im a carnivore but would never eat skunk. Or possum or rats, or snakes etc I don’t live in the wild I don’t need that.. no rodents for me🙅🏼♀️
I watched a video the other day about some vegetarians having a funeral at a grocery store for the dead chickens in the fridge chanting that’s not food they’re bodies 😣and they had a coffin ⚰️ to put the chicken

I have not personally known anyone who ate skunk, or at least I don't remember it. But there used to be a "health food" store near me that specialized in food for people with various food allergies. They sold probably 50 kinds of meat, including skunk. It was all frozen. They didn't sell enough of each kind to sell it fresh. They also sold a bunch of different kinds of milk. It was pretty specialized, although they also sold normal food.
I think I'd rather eat skunk than opossum. I've always heard that opossum are bad tasting meat.
Skunks live near me. I walk at night and those skunks can be aggressive. Any other animal will run away from humans. Those skunk oftentimes don't run. They'll get aggressive, stamp their feet, growl, and even chase you after you've walked past them.

regions around Mexico City... (centre of the country)
that's where they usually "venture" into more things... skunk, rat soup... and more
but they're wild catch or "de campo" rather than city dumpsters, lmao...

Never had skunk. I wonder how you get close enough to catch it.

If you are close enough to catch it, you are not far enough away to keep from being sprayed.

I've learned that humans eat everything. I just saw a video of a lady that eats her own shit. No not a metaphor... literally ate her own shit for 12 years straight.

There are some creatures that I am okay with not trying in my lifetime. Skunks have been placed in that box as of today.

Wild small animals I hunted and ate were squirrels, rabbits, and Quail which is delicious. Would never eat Skunk because of the smell. If it smells bad I’m not eating it.

Meyer, I have never tried skunk myself, and probably will, yes I figured that it was edible. After all, it's an animal, and all animals are made of meat. Does my father always says "if it's made of meat, I'll eat it”!

There's someplace in the Ozarks where people still eat squirrel, like they hunt and eat it the way we would get a burger from McDonalds. Whole towns up there where this is a normal part of life.
