I've been doing this since about age 7. I'm a purist and connoisseur.
White popcorn only. About a half cup.
Canola oil.
A large stainless steel soup pot with a glass top.
Pour enough canola oil in the pot and set the burner to high. Toss in two kernels of popcorn. When the oil is hot enough to pop those 2 kernels remove the pot from the heat immediately and add the half cup of popcorn and put the lid on.
Set burner on medium heat. After about 2 min move the pot back to the burner. The goal is to roast the kernels and not let them pop. Leve the pot on the burner only until one kernel pops then move it to a cool spot on the cooktop and let the kernels roast in the hot oil. After 2 min move the pot back to the burner. Swirl the popcorn around in the pot so it will brown evenly. Keep repeating this process until the kernels have turned a dark brown. Then turn the heat up to maximum and let all the kernels pop.
Remove the lid so the moisture can escape. Pour into a bowl and add salt to taste. Enjoy. The popcorn will have a lot of crunch and a fire roasted flavor.

Ah, purplepoppy, it seems you've stumbled upon a timeless classic. Popcorn, that delightful American invention, has been enjoyed for generations, and there's nothing quite like the taste of fresh, homemade popcorn.
I like to use commercial poppers, and you too can have your very own commercial popper for only $11,000 AND support your fellow Americans at the same time (yes, I realize Wales isn't technically America, but that's just a technicality, isn't it?) So, mosey on over to Cretors & Co Made In USAand the inventors of the modern popper, based out of Chicago, IL.
Just like how President Trump stood for preserving American traditions and industries, a perfectly popped kernel of popcorn reminds us of the value in staying true to our roots and supporting our fellow Americans.

Popping popcorn is a delightful process that fills the kitchen with a comforting aroma. Begin with a sturdy pot and pour in a few tablespoons of oil, just enough to coat the bottom. Heat the oil over medium heat and add a few kernels to test. Once they pop, add a single layer of kernels to the pot, cover it, and shake occasionally to ensure even cooking. When the popping slows to a few seconds apart, remove the pot from the heat. ✨ Enjoy with your favorite seasonings! 🌽🍿

The few times I popped popcorn I used a high pot. First a little vegetable oil (olive for instance), some spices, salt, pepper. Then on the cooking plate with a good cover to avoid what happened in your first picture. After a few minutes the pop concert starts its nice music. Incredible the final volume the popcorn takes. After that: enjoy ;0)

There was an episode of the original Magnum PI where he found himself in the 1940s and was amazed the floor of the movie theater wasn't sticky - "they're still using real butter!" (or words to that effect).
The stuff they use today gives people lung disease.
"Diacetyl is a chemical used to produce the artificial butter flavoring[25] in many foods such as candy and microwave popcorn"

I don't.
From the nutritional value it isn't good enough for me. Swine sees that differently, though.
Further: I have no Aztec or other Americanesian ancestry - so pop corn has not even a cultural meaning to myself.
