I was born two decades after fall of communism but my grandparents still remember times of communism.
In communist Poland it was only possible to order a drink or a beer in restaurant if you ordered some dish. Of course people who wanted just drink something ordered the cheapest possible dish available. In most cases it was "Karminadel" (big flat mystery meat ball with roasted onions, mushed potatoes and red beet salad) or "Galaretka" (mystery meat in aspic + a wheat bun).
This are tow signature dishes when I think about communism.
