I always cook the family turkey. I don't buy "sale" turkeys. Unfortunately, I tried a heritage breed a few years ago and will never go back to grocery store turkeys. The taste is so much better. I get a ham also, but don't really care about that... I'm team turkey and get a ham for the turkey haters only.

Turkey is expensive and it is hard to get a good quality product during Thanksgiving because the entire continent is competing to get that one single ingredient in their meal. Why I prefer other foods that are not so popular during holidays such as shrimp or ham or roast beef. They might be expensive, but they are not as hard to get as turkey is during a major holiday.
