I know that we live in a culture of delivery. I have many items delivered. I still usually would rather go to the grocery store however. I like picking out my own groceries and supplies. Sometimes, they make mistakes because they don't know exactly what I want. Does anybody else still enjoy going to the grocery store and picking their own items out?
1.7K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I don't particularly enjoy going shopping but I do. I prefer to see what they have and pick out the things I want personally.
My wife does most of our shopping because she is in town way more often than am I. She also knows various markets that have organic produce, meat and products. She's picky.
We live in a rural area where delivery is not available. Although we do order occasional products on-line, especially my favorite Cafè Justo coffee and Equal Exchange hot coco powder. Sometimes I order jam, too.
Delivery wasn't a thing when I lived in the suburbs before we moved here 24 years ago.00 Reply

2 moAs for grocery shopping I still prefer to do it myself so I can pick out what I want & quality control everything I pick out as much as possible.
As for food I always say the less hands involved in handling your food the better.
As for delivery It’s amazing how many people nowadays have food delivered including takeout meals from local restaurants.
At work people all the time are having takeout food delivered & I always laugh. With all honesty I don’t do delivery & I don’t want some joker that just got don’t humping his fist reaching in my fry bag or taking a sip out of my soda.
Instead of Grubhub they should call it Grosshub, instead of Instacart they should call it Instafart, instead of UberEats they should call it UberDriversEat.
I have heard horror stories so no thanks on delivery.

The item is unavailable (like water!!!)
Even though I checked "No substitute" they do it anyway.😕
They don't read the special delivery instructions on the order!
They don't speak a lick of English🙄
My card didn't work right and I had to keep putting it behind my phone for them to see
Something usually goes wrong when I am checking out. Then I redo it and then I get double charged
But I am not physically able to go to the grocery store and shop21 Reply
2 moFuck no. Grocery stores are designed specifically to make you buy more than you need by visually and audibly overstimulating you in a very subtle way. There’s a reason they change the layout of the store once every quarter, stability negates this pattern and they need it to be consistent. I’d rather just order it online where I can figure out exactly what I need and not go over budget

Yes, absolutely, you’re definitely not alone 🛒
I still love going to the store in person. Choosing my own produce feels almost like a small culinary adventure every time. I tap melons, smell herbs, check the marbling on meat, and sometimes discover new ingredients by accident. Delivery is convenient, but it can’t replace that sensory experience and control over quality.00 Reply

I loved doing that almost as much as actually going fishing.
For most of the 32 years that I was married, my wife did the grocery shopping, and she didn't want me along with her.
She passed away several weeks ago, so I'm back on my own now.
My wife's sister has been very kind in ordering and having groceries delivered to me since my wife passed.
My own health is such that going to the grocery store myself is out of the question, so I'm going to have to learn how to grocery shop online.
Like you, though, when online shopping, not actually seeing what I'm buying in the way of meat or produce is not ideal.
Wish me luck, if you would.

2 moYeah, I do! At least I get exactly what I want, not what someone else thought I wanted and, secondly, it doesn't cost anywhere near as much!! Last month, I was gpnna order a bunch of stuff from Aldi, less than 2 miles from here, and they were gonna charge me an extra $160-some on top of what the food actually costs and they were going to force me to buy bags, plus I was getting charged for them to keep my order overnight because they weren't gonna bring it that afternoon, for some reason when I WANTED it for that night!!!
00 Reply Yeah, I've told all partners I prefer to go shopping together if we can. Sometimes it can spark ideas for dinner or treats. Sometimes I order amazon or walmart groceries for delivery before we wake up if its simple stuff like milk or breakfast items.
10 ReplyI never get groceries delivered. I have only ever done that one time when I was down with the flu and didn't have the energy to go out. Otherwise I always do my own shopping in person, and when it comes to produce and meats I want to be the one who looks at that and decides what's best.
00 Reply422 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I've never had groceries delivered. I don't think I ever would. I like picking the meats that I'm picking. I like picking the fruits, the vegetables, all that stuff, the way that I want them.
Maybe if I get really old and I can't walk or drive or something , I might have somebody to do that for me , but maybe or maybe I'll just hitchhike to the store l o l

2 moI always shop in person. Always have. Always will.
Why should I pay extra for delivery... And for hoping store employee shoppers get exactly what I specify? In person, I get exactly what I want, and often a few other things that I didn't think of.

2 moWe have options and it gets difficult when you are not the one doing your own shopping. I def prefer to pick my fruits and veggies my bloody self.

2 moTotally. I don't want someone picking our food other than us.
Even my daughter- a rather faithful follower of pick-up-and-go at stores in her area (since she usually has three kids in tow), gave up on WalMart since they had her waiting over an hour with the food already being pulled, and she had to go to the manager to get that squared away.

2 moI always try to buy the items with "best by" dates that are furthest into the future.
If I got groceries delivered, I'm worried that they'd give me a gallon of milk that expired in twelve hours.
Plus, my grocery store has fresh-made pizza. I usually eat a slice or two before I start shopping.
00 Reply4.6K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I would sooner go to a grocery store & do my own shopping. Besides picking up what I want I usually get to see & chat with friends I haven't seen in a while. So in reality it is kind of a social outing for me.
10 Reply4.9K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. How can you buy fruit and vegetables without seeing them? When you go to the supermarket I usually see something not on the list that we need. I would never shop for food online.

I tested it a few times, when I had no car or also wanted several crates of water and they always picked the best fruits and vegetables. I never had a complaint.

@DryGermanGuy I would imagine that they would give you the leftovers from the store that nobody wanted.
- 2 mo
Well, I can't speak for the business model in your consumer paradise, but here you definitely get the best items. They even have an online function to get your money back for old/damaged goods.

@DryGermanGuy they know most people can't be bothered to send back a couple of rotten apples.
Anonymous(25-29)2 moits therapeutic to be able to walk through a store and select what you want.
instacart is mostly for the couch potatoes or elderly / sick who can't leave the house.
who the hell wants to pay an additional $15 in tips and fees?
10 Reply369 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I don't enjoy it but I have the luxury of a supermarket a 100 m away. I do have to cross the road however.
It is just quicker and I can adjust what I buy quicker. Which packet of cheese is cheaper given size and price.

00 ReplyI actually enjoy food shopping. I know I will pick the best vegetables, meats, and fish. I don't trust the grocery delivery to choose the best items.
