Do you ever go to a restaurant and order a dish that you often make at home? How does it compare?

I make great eggs benedict (or at least I think it's good). I've tried it at two different places so far though and... at the risk of sounding conceited...

...I really honestly think mine is better...here's my question about it...

I order dishes I don't cook at home if I go to restaurants. My homemade soups outperform restaurant soups in every category. Generally I use always stock as base, use always fresh veggies not those from stock and lot of meat. I have father and brother to feed so there must be lot of meat and such a soup has to make full.
In restaurants are soups rather appetizer.
I'm by no means a chef, but at home I'm used to cooking for a pile of people. We always have visitors who stay over so there's always still an active setting for 5-7. Sometimes neighbors as well. There are some thing I'll never order from anyone bc I love the way I was taught to make it. Mostly ethnic stuff. And I'm hard-pressed to order pasta anywhere unless it's literally freshly cranked out on site fresh daily.
I'm sure you're in fact quite the chef 👨🍳
Meh. There's stuff I like to make and stuff (casseroles, stir fry, etc.) I find too challenging in my little kitchen (e. g., octopus) so I'll have it when I go out.
What's your best casserole?
There’s one traditional one called pastitsio everyone tends to love (like a Greek baked ziti). I make one with meat during regular days and a vegan one during fasting periods. Very easy. My tuna and chicken casseroles are also popular among my kids’ friends. Thanksgiving I have to make all of them bc they all pile into the house for a home cooked meal.
Ooohhh, I'm planning to make a baked sausage ziti this week! Here's a question I posted last year...
Baked ziti with sausage for dinner! How does it look? ↗
Nice!
I have no doubt your eggs are far better BC , a favorite dish of mine also.
Here , eating out is pretty cheap , I often instruct them on simple things ( just my wants ) bcoz I'm very careful with diet.
Thank you very kindly 🙏 *hat tip*
I make most restaurants look like fast food or frozen dinner..
What's your specialty?
It use to be italian food, But its expanded a hell of a lot, to include almost anything but Asian, Im still learning that.
No comparison whatsoever... what I cook myself is way much better because it's the whole experience of cooling something myself and enjoying the fruits of my labour.
I’m not a good inside cook and I have no experience except for grilled cheese sandwiches. But I can really cook some very nice steaks out on the grill outside. Along with hamburgers. And I was taught by my older brother how to smoke barbecue ribs and I really got that down quickly and I think it’s top of the line 😊
Well at home I eat salads and water to stay young but ok once in a while I do reward myself I order dinero that are very hard to cook at home to it is worth to spoiled yourself once in a while😃
My husband and I both prefer my cooking over restaurants. When we do go out though, we usually order food that I don’t make at home like French fries or some specialty.
Depends on the dish. I make great omelettes- I've only been to one restaurant that made them better. Oriental and Hispanic specialties I can fake fairly well, but I wouldn't consider them authentic at all.
I cannot say that everything I cook is a culinary delight but nobody ever got dysentery from something I cooked.
if I ever go to a place... it better be a few times better than what I can make myself
My cooking is below average, good enough to eat but it much more.
I generally order stuff I can't cook myself or things they can't mass prepare
My Tex-Mex recipes are very much restaurant quality
Unfortunately not good.
I can cook basic stuff. But fancy stuff no.
