A depressed peson will act like he's depressed, a drug addict will likely act like a drug addict... you name it.
but here's one often forgotten fact. The power to do something with it is in your hands, and you will be judged based on how you use it.

Depression isn't something everyone around you should adapt to, netiher is obesity, or a form of addiction. It's something you can fix, and maintaining that negative staus quo is thus YOUR fault. Hence it should be acceptable to take it into the equation when figuring who you are.
It's not all of you, but it is a part of you.

Perhaps but more often than not that is the single greatest thing that stands out for people with problems. If I meet a person who's a druggy, my firs impression of them will be that they ARE a druggy and any other quality they have becomes mute and is overshadowed by this overwhelmingly bad quality they have.

When a caterpillar goes through metamorphosis it dies except for a small number of cells. I compared this to laying an egg. I used the qualifier "sort of" to show I recognize it is not exactly the same. The tiny number of surviving cells grow by consuming the dead body of the caterpillar. Read about metamorphosis.
