Depression Sufferers: Six Things To Tell Yourself When You Reach Rock Bottom.

Depression sufferers: Six things to tell yourself when you reach rock bottom.

Like one in four people, I suffer from a mental health disorder. I suffer from PTSD, depression and insomnia and there are days when I feel like things are getting better, but there are also days when you feel like you're going to be this way forever or that there's no escape.

On those days, it's hard to go about your daily life, even for people who dont suffer mental health disorders. If you're anything like me your thoughts tend to make you worse, making you spiral further and further into sadness, by staying positive even in the worst times it will all pay off, trust me.

1. 'Im not alone! Other people go through this too.'

It is hugely important to understand no matter how hard things are, there are many other men and women that are struggling through the same experience as you.

2. 'I know I don't feel like it, but I'm going to do something with myself today.'

Never, ever sit in a dark room with the curtains closed, or lay in bed wallowing in sadness. Never do this! Even if you don't manage to go out, complete that novel you never got round to finishing, sit there doodling, clean up or build and put up that shelf you've never got around to doing. There is always something you can do to keep yourself occupied.

3. 'There is always someone who cares.'

You may feel like no one cares, like you're alone through your problems but there is always someone, whether it be a friend, family member or even a pet that loves you dearly. You may feel alone, but you never are!

4. 'I will not be like this forever.'

Even though it may feel like there isn't a light at the end of the tunnel, nothing lasts forever. You will beat this!

5. 'If things get dangerously bad, I will consult a professional.'

If you have any suicidal thoughts, even if you haven't had time to think of a plan for how you will end your life ring for an ambulance or call a suicide hotline. Suicidal will not fix things, it will end the chances of it ever getting better. If you don't feel suicidal, just very low, you may want to contact your GP or possibly, get some councelling.

6.'I forgive myself.'

I am giving you these tips when I am a young adult who struggles to go outside, when I fail to I recognise the fact that I may not have done what was best, but I will try again. It is so so important to forgive yourself.

If you're a UK citizen and are feeling suicidal, don't hesitate to contact The Samaritans, open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Telephone No: 116 123
