If a girl buys you something?

You have a friend and she's female, and she buys you something every now and again. Not a material possession, like food - snacks and candy, etc.

Do you usually let it go to your head and assume she has a crush on you, or are you just face value grateful?

There's a guy who is my friend first and foremost but I also have a thing for him... I heard him say he was hungry, so when I went to get food I got him something as well.

When I handed it to him he said "you shouldn't have!" With a big grin on his face. I honestly meant it as a nice gesture and not a "I have a crush on you" gesture, but I'm worried he took it for the latter and didn't see it as was: a friend buying a friend food.

And I just don't want him to think our relationship is getting weird because he's taken and sooo unavailable, but our friendship is progressing and Id be sad if a nice gesture made him feel awkward and set things back

Just tell him straight. I don't know how to tell him after you did that but try and tell him you aren't interested..

He's taken NOW and I'm not going to do anything to break them up, but I want to leave the option open for the both of us in the maybe future if it ever works out

Well there you go. You just answered your own question.
Leave it open, when he's single. Not taken. It could influence his decisions if you keep buying him shit and his girl isn't giving him the same treatment.
