Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Opening your mouth will stretch your face and pull the skin to expose harder to reach crevices. That's more useful when applying lipstick, but it becomes habit to do so when applying make-up in general, since lipstick is the most commonly applied makeup item. It's subconscious association. Whenever I have applied any makeup to my eye area, I've always had my wrists pressed against my mouth to steady my hand, so I've always kept mine closed.

I can apply it without opening my mouth. I can't apply eyeliner without having my mouth open though.

I think subconsciously I'm hoping that even half way through my make up, I look so bangable that guys will just have to kiss me. I've got my mouth open ready for that possibility, totes.

It's more convenient for them, I imagine. When I used to rest my chin on my desk in school, I would lift up my head sometimes by opening my mouth. It probably looked weird, but for me it was just for practical purposes.

I CAN apply mascara without opening my mouths. But it's much easier if I do.

It just helps keep you from blinking, as well as stretching out your skin a little, so you don't accidently get some mascara on your cheek or brow bone. Or at least that's why I sometimes do that.. haha

We can. Its just a natural force of habit. I learned to do it myself recently because opening my mouth had no relation to mascara. With that said, why is it that when people eat with spoons, we look away once its in route to our mouths? Test it out or watch those around you.

we have to because when we open our mouths it somehow keeps our eyes wider opened? Like it somehow helps us not to blink and open our eyes as much as possible. We can close our mouths but when we do it, we are doing it without realizing it

Pretty much every girl does it without even thinking! I've looked at myself in the mirror while putting on mascara, noticed my ridiculous face, tried to put on mascara with my mouth closed, and ended up looking even more ridiculous. Putting on mascara will just always be an awkward girl thing.

Lol it helps us when putting it on it keeps us from blinking and stabbing ourselves in the eye lol but I don't keep my mouth open I actually prefer it close sometimes I just close one eye and look with the other while putting it on

so the reason that girls put their mascara on with their mouths open is (especially in the case of the bottom lashes) it pulls the skin away from your eyes and makes it harder to get mascara on your face.

I always keep my mouth closed when I put on mascara. It's not really that hard, but I feel like part of it too has to do with how their face and eyes are shaped. If they are more deep set eyes they might have to open their mouth to avoid getting mascara everywhere.

and often eyes open that wide are accompanied by mouth open like in the aawww expression

It's a natural reaction/movement to the face. It helps relaxes the face believe it or not. I typically never put mascara on with an open mouth.
