What does it mean if you're an "old soul"?

Question

I was talking to my therapist and he called me that. Any ideas on what it means? Thank you! :)

A couple of the males are way off on the definition. I'll keep this short. To be an old soul, a person has to have the mentality of someone older than them. You're 18 now, but perhaps you think like someone in their 30's or any age that is older than yours. Old souls are young people who think and act as if they've lived longer than they really have. I used to think I was an old soul, because I enjoyed the same activities that my great grandmother does, but it's a little more than that. It is about mental maturity. Your therapist is just calling you mature (also sometimes known as wise) for your age, to put that in simple terms.

I always get told that I've got an old soul living in a teenage body. It typically just means that you're more mature than the average person that is your age. Sometimes that's because of the way you talk (meaning your usage of language is better instead of saying "ya" or something similar, you say "yes"), or just by the way you act by being more respectful or whatnot. These aren't the only things that can make you seem like an "old soul" but they can have a pretty big impact on the way people see you and your age.

You either are too mature for your age. Or you seem to have a spirit of a person who has lived too much for their age. Like you have the mental age of a 40 yo for instance. Old soul came from the beliefs that people reincarnate, thus an old soul would be someone who had lived many times. It's usually attributed to people who have no patience for living, or are just sick and tired of everything around them.

It means that you see things from an older persons perspective. Not on everything, but important things. For me when I meet a young person like you, I love it because you have a maturity that many your age don't have.

Old fashioned. Old school, that kind of thing. I always take it as a compliment. You might be really kind or are very considerate of others (something that seems to be less and less these days). Maybe instead of going to the bars you'd rather stay home and watch a movie.
