Yes, it is true, and I think most of us fall into that category at times, some frequently, and others maybe not so much, but you can't always be yourself in front of everyone if you have a desire to be liked at all, because if you are always yourself, there are going to be those that hate you just for that reason alone.
When we go to a church, for example, we often dress up in our best attire to appear angelic, but when we are with our closest friends, who really know us, we can be who we really are, which may be, instead, a bit of a little devil... lol
That being said, I am not really talking about that kind of split personality anyway, this question is referring to the really serious stuff, where a person can actually be 2 completely different people.
There was a horror movie out in 2016 called "SPLIT", where an actor, James McAvoy, had many different personalities and one of those personalities kidnapped some girls and was going to do whatever it was he was going to do to them, depending on what personality that he was in at the time.
So, what do you know about this? ... do you know anyone or have you ever met anyone that is like this?
What is that person like? ... is it scary to be around someone like that? ... I am getting the chills just thinking about it! ... lol

I sometimes wonder if I have a mild case of that although I tend to interpret it as just having many facets to my character. My character can be all over the place depending on my mood, situation, and perhaps intoxication level. :-D
One thing in my case is that my face betrays how I feel often. I have what's called the "resting happy face". It makes people ask me what I'm so cheerful about when I'm not so cheerful. But then I'm like, "Thanks for asking! I feel cheerful now!" :-D Yet it's hard to be taken seriously when I'm upset as a result unless I really exaggerate it and pretend like I'm grumpier than I actually am, at which point it seems to shock people sometimes that I have this foul and belligerent side to me (which I'm exaggerating since otherwise, they'll think I'm still joking). It's like the Mercutio thing in Romeo and Juliet.
It's kind of a PITA. Also, I had to bounce between three cultures growing up and learn English on the way (not my first language and I learned it rather late, and I think differently when I think in English as opposed to thinking in Japanese -- even changes how I feel about things). In the process, each culture challenged my ideas of what's cool and not cool, right and wrong, rude and polite. I learned to adapt to each to a great degree, but in the process, it sort of fragmented my thinking. It's like I have an American side and a Japanese side, and they're almost like two very different people, and I summon the appropriate one depending on the context.
Also been called "flip-flopper" a lot, because I change my mind about subjects all the time at alarming rates. Then people are like, "WTF, you had totally different thoughts about this subject last year. You're a flip-flopper.' And I'm like, "Yes, but I learned new things since last year which made me change my mind about it. I think my thoughts last year weren't quite accurate." I think that also comes across like a split personality but I'm just adapting very quickly to new information as it comes in. I've learned to adapt very quickly as a result of all sorts of disrupting changes to my life which made me have to question everything I took for granted. So I no longer assume I know anything for certain and can change my mind about just about anything as soon as I get new information. I figure all people do that to some degree but I think I do it way more than most.
The girl i lost my V-card to has 5 personalities. 1 guy, 1 little girl, a depressed suicidal version of herself, A flirty, sex crazed version of herself, And her normal self.
We hooked up for a couple weeks, and off and on a couple months after that. It was odd when she would kinda go blank for a sec then everything change about her. Although, it was always fun when her flirty personality came out, we almost always had sex, lots of it.
The multiple personalities would have been a real adjustment but mostly it was other things that were the dealbreakers.
I can't say im a good housekeeper, but her place was downright unsanitary, indoor pets that didn't get cleaned up after, trash everywhere you step. Wearing socks wasn't enough, shoes were a must.
She had kinks i couldnt get into, incest play and she watched beastiality porn, people and dogs.
Additionally she wanted a serious relationship and i wasn't in a good place at the time.
Another member replying to this question said that this disorder is primarily from early abuse, especially sexual abuse. It sounds like she had that big time from what you are describing!
One, still close friends with her, she's on here too actually. But here she is her happy self, her 'present' self. Like in person too she is actually a very cheerful person. Smiles, goofy, happy tones. If she's sad or having a bad day, like she's pissed, she'd be muttering and pouting, it's funny actually. When scared she'd jump up or hide behind a pillow. Adorableness at its finest.
But if someone is disrespectful to her or to friends, or if there's a threat, she changes like her eyes seem like she's daydreaming or not interested with her voice becoming all the way monotone, little to no facial expression. That person disrespecting's safest bet would be apologizing or leaving. During threats she becomes a full on survivor. And during all the chaos, she'll say little to nothing. That is the person that I got to know first.
After everything is over she becomes her happy crybaby self again like nothing happened. I say crybaby because the shift from cute to Bad just happens like 1,2,3 it's crazy but I find it interesting
I don't know anyone being diagnosed with it, but I'm sure parents do it or Should at least. Her parents though say she just had to find herself, puberty influecing too, all that crap, but they don't know
My mother is a sweet and loving person in public but an abusive and psychopathic monster to me and my dad and hates both of us intensely and passionately without cause - it isn't fake - she cries when she sees dogs suffering but then she would probably celebrate if I got run over by a train since it would mean one less mouth to feed
She hasn't gotten help - her sister came to live with us for a vacation for a few months and left 2 months ahead of schedule and completely ghosted her after leaving cause she saw her being mean to my dad and I
I have mpd i still call it mutiple because that's the easiest way to explain since i have mutiple people not just one other. Plus i had it before they changed just to call it all under the same name.
I have a female called junko she's agressive but protective of what she cares about which is only me so far she won't cause any harm if you don't. respect her she respects you. Even tho she does only tend to show up if i get mad this has only happend a couple times not a big deal really. Since i am a really calm person. Junko is well 17 now she still feels 16 tho.
Then lilith he is a stright up weirdo he just likes making weird sentances that sound deep or are, like he will just talk about how we are all dust and just like that we are ash. Yeah i ain't gonna figure him out he honestly seem's a bit made up to me well i suppose they are but even more than junko who is female and how that works with me been a guy I don't know. He comes when junko or i need protecting from something it's really small stuff he can just come out or not. But like me he is calm and reasonable heck even more than me. He is age i dunno it keeps shifting.
I feel like you maybe getting the wrong idea from a horror film were he can turn into a wolf lmao. I asure you it can be very not noticable to full. But if we ain't in a mental ward or about to be i am pretty sure that person is okay like myself is. Yes i may have other personaitlys but i can saftley say i am sound of mind to not be just a danger or scary.
i am just like anyone else but when i get anger i dunno how to cope so i let someone else deal with it. Which normally works out with no bad stuff happing. apart from a couple times when i was builled but no one is gonna complain at that.
@IU_092 nope i just end up fully blacking out. Junko remembers what i am remembers the feels i have. Like she would know i was happy or sad when she comes out.
Lilith he remembers everything from actions and emotions. He's more like always there in the back of my mind watching everything which i don't mind it's easier for me to explain stuff to him since he already knows. And normally if i was gonna do something when there is a better option he sorta pushes me to think about it twice.
With junko it does get kinda annoying to fill in blanks for her and for her to fill in the blanks for me.
Sad to say a lot of people r this way and yes it is creepy , I think the main reason for it is because this world is filled with people that want to be accepted , no matter what we do in life people are judged to really be yourself is a struggle for a lot of people , it all comes down to insecurities mainly , internet is a prime example of people with split personalities and lifestyle , when there is so many people on here that can’t accept on who they are , or they pretend to be something they aren’t or they use someone else’s picture and catfish people to be accepted , it’s a mental illness that someone really needs to get help with , it’s borderline psychotic , look at Ted Bundy people love that guy he is was Good looking , great personality but he was hiding the fact that he was a serial killer. So it makes you think that this is a scary world we live in because people can’t accept who they really are and it is sad , people we think are a loving caring person can be completely opposite behind our backs when we catch that person they automatically become the biggest piece of shit we know and yes i busted a bunch. It’s something that will never end cuz people can’t accept who they really are
I'm not certain. I've been with people who will switch, on a dime into someone else, but not diagnosed. Frustrating and scary. What's the difference between this and hormonal shifts is beyond me.. The cases I've been around seemed like hormonal or emotional shifts. Bottom line... it's frightening... worse than movies.
I know someone who counseled split personality, 5 diagnosed. A lot of this I understand has to do with early life abuse, often sexual abuse, but definitely fear... the mind fragments... awful and sad. She was able to weave the person back into a whole again by releasing the traumas that were controlling.
There's some really crazy stuff you gotta deal with in humanity because of our creative minds, hormonal instability, and emotional instability. No wonder we are such a tragic race... albeit... highly innovative. Jesus right... this is a very damaged world...
I've never met anyone who has this, but have heard about it. It seems very scary. I watched a YouTube video once that a girl recorded in her room in a mental hospital, and she was changing from person to person while on camera. It was really interesting to watch.
DID is a result of Early Childhood Trauma usually Sexual Abuse. I treat clients with DID. It's one of the Most Controversial Diagnosis'. Some in the Mental Health Community aren't sure it's Real it's so Rare that most Mental Health Professionals never have Case to actually see it for themselves. I've had 2 clients in my Career and I'm a Trauma Specialist.
Yeah. Like I said many Therapists go an entire career and never get a client. But it's also very difficult to Diagnose. One of the clients only abused substances under one of the Alters.
yea, this one girl in a psych clinic. she was raped as a child and all. She basically had only alt, this really ""sociopathic"" mean overly edgy one. kinda like a 12 yo wannabee goth kid that takes it way to the extreme. in that state she'd try to hurt herself by hitting herself on walls and trying to cut herself. talk about murder and blood all the time. Saw it a few times, it was weird. she didn't switch that often though. was herself most of the time
Most of the media created about this harps on the 'evil' story. That is simply very rarely even remotely close to reality.
DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) is a way for a person to cope and survive with truly massive trauma, most commonly when the psyche/personality/neurology is still developing. Rather than struggling with handling the trauma alone, the mind splits and segregates memories, parts of itself, and forms personalities around the memories that are walled off. for want of a better description. It is rare that any of these personalities are aggressive, but aggresively defensive is not that uncommon..
What the media portrays is very false. There is no 'evil' personality. Its a serious mental illness and its genuinely having multiple people live in the same body. They each have their own personalities and hobbies. You shouldn't be frightened of them, they are still people
Media protrays it bad all the time. But there can be an evil personailty. Someone can get a personailty that is psychotic aka which would harm other aka why they be in mental ward. To say there is no evil personailty is wrong. There of course isn't always a evil personailty but it is a possibilty. But you are correct films portray it bad cause more entertainment.
Yes. I used to work in the mental health sector. A client had three different personalities, one was a male, child and herself. Absolutely amazing watching them interact. Her voice would chance seemlessly. No need to be afraid, this sort of stuff is alwsys born out of trauma. Only time you would need to be afraid is if you were being threatened or attacked (just like with anyone else who doesn't have a disorder).

Oh yeah. I thought it was a movie thing until I met a person. A woman actually and we were trying to date but she litterally is sometimes sweet and touchy and nice. And she splits into suicidal. Now I know many will argue that all women are like that but this case was abnormal she litterally told me that she attempted suicide 3 times. So yeah it's scary when it's actually real
I had a co worker who wife had 6 personalitys. He called them his children. He would call them out to play. Then one night the hoe girl that aways came out who was a whore took the check book out and wrote $9,000 of hot checks. She was having a goodtime tell she got arrested
You shouldn't believe everything you watch on tv. Some one hurting another and saying its a personality disorder has bigger problems than a disorder could ever have over them.
I've dealt with some people with difficult mental issues, but never this specifically as far as I know.

I won't say how i know him but he has split personalitie disorder and it is nasty he will bully abuse buy stuff and he won't remember what his other personlitie did and doesnr know it was him it slowly developed and got worse to the point it was mostly the nasty side I don't know how he is now but he has a girlfriend so hopefully its not bad but i doubt he's taking his meds.
There is rumers that he burnt down 3houses nearby his house when he was at peak crazy but I don't know if its true.
It's really a lot scarier for their friends and relatives. My patients both had fugue as well, and were literally missing for months, and had no memory of where they had been or what they had done. Both were women, and neither was particularly upset about it. This is a fairly good discussion about it:
