Is it normal for your female friends to get mad at you for no reason?

I have this female friend, and we have been friends for along time.
I have noticed that she occasionally gets mad at me for no reason. When I ask her what is wrong, I get the classic "I'm fine" or "nothing" from her and she gets even madder. I have learnt quickly not to ask this question again.
I thought this kind of a thing happens only between people in a relationship (we are just buddies). Is it normal for a female friend to act like this?

There's always a reason and it may or may not have anything to do with you. You will rip your hair out trying to know. If you enjoy her friendship but can't continue to be her friend under those circumstances, tell her that in a friendly way. She may understand. If she doesn't understand, stop being friends with her. If you enjoy her friendship and don't particularly mind her occasional outbursts, don't worry about it and let things continue as they are.

If she's on period, I find it normal cause I know they fuel pretty fast.
