How would a woman go about putting a man on child support?

A DNA test only happens if he claims he's not the father. He can waive that, or wait for the results. If the test comes back as positive, he's the daddy and the court will accept that as prima facia proof (the tests are accurate to hundreds of billions to one). You, mom, will have to request a child support hearing. Poppa will be summoned to court- this is not a request, it's an order to appear. Either party can have a lawyer present, and I suggest you obtain the services of one. Honestly, there are so many man hating female lawyer circling like sharks, that you should be able to find one who'll represent you for free.
Both of you will have to submit financial documents to the court to establish income. No fudging here- tax documents will be required. Every state has a different guideline for calculating support. The court also factors how the mother plans to use the support money. If a certain amount is necessary to keep a roof over the child's head, he has to pay his share. If he has evidence that the mother might misuse the funds, it could help his case.
Keep in mind that judges like solutions more than they like problems, so the judge will try to make the support payments an amount that the guy can actually pay. Naturally you can protest if you feel it's not enough.
Are you my tough minded girl from previous threads on this subject? Regardless, I wish you good luck.
I think the DNA test comes last as some form of last resort.
I think the first thing is to talk to the man in question, second would be to consult a (divorce) lawyer.
Everyone who has a kid isn’t married. Of course, I don’t expect some asshole pedophile who always talks about young women to understand that.
You fucking piece of shit.

Im not sure of the laws in your area. But you go to the child support enforcement agency or whatever it is called and start the process. They go through the courts and will determine how much he should pay.
If the father s known, all is self explanatory.
If he isn't - you deserve no counseling from us.
