Why do some people find it hard to believe when other people call them pretty or handsome?

Often, even though a person is beautiful or handsome to others, they have their own insecurities. We don't all look at people the same way and beauty is quite subjective.

I for one set high standards for myself. This means that i'm always striving to be unrealistically better than i was before. This also means that if someone gave me a compliment, i would either think they just had low standards, thus their compliment didn't mean much. Or just be reminded that i'm not as good as i wish i could be. Which in truth does motivate me to be better actually. So even though i don't really accept compliments, i still like to use them as motivation to be better.

I have found, in my experience, women will take one feature, on their face or body, and magnify it into horrible. That could be one reason. Insecurity might be another.

It's a tough world and it's not shy about constantly reminding you of where you rank. You have 2 choices 1. Ignore it (easier said then done sometimes). Or 2. Close yourself off from it ( and your protection becomes your cage).
