I know this question may seem silly to you guys, but can a modern Western woman TRULY, HONESTLY be happy with a pathetic, mediocre-looking man? A man that has literally nothing going for him physically? Personality: Average level of confidence; milquetoast, boring but polite. The Jason Bateman of men.
This man literally has no positives. Just pure trash, across the board, when it comes to his physical presence. Nothing is attractive or Chad-like about him whatsoever. Is it possible a modern woman can be satisfied with such men? I honestly 100% believe it is impossible, but women simply "settle" for these men they truly do not want, once they hit 35 and over.

Looks are subjective. When you look around do you see only model couples? No. I've said this before, but I personally think my best friend's fiance is super unattractive. Like i genuinely get low key grossed out when she sends me all these pics of him saying how cute and attractive he is. He's more on the husky overweight side and i don't like his face (i don't like him personally either though so that could be why my reactions are more extreme). But my friend genuinely finds him attractive. Same with his personality. I think he's boring, annoying, and an ass. She finds him hilarious and just clicks with him. She was pissed and confused because when she introduced him to her family they were embarrassed and thought he was ugly. He eventually got a "pass" from them because he was white. Just because "society" or other people may think a man is "pure trash around the board" doesn't mean it's "true" and it doesn't mean every single person will see them that way. And just because we're over 35 doesn't mean we have to settle for shit. Just accept that real life isn't how gag and the internet portrays it to be. There are people in genuinely happy relationships regardless if they're over weight, broke, and perceived as ugly.
@Dinklex3 I give you credit for being honest... kinda harsh... but hey... truth hurts. If you feel that way about him, what does your friend look like? Was she single for a while by the time she met her boyfriend?
@_lost_soul_ I don't think me finding him unattractive is "harsh". I didn't voice it like her family members 🤷♂️ She met him her freshman year of college and stayed with him since. In high school her "type" was tall, skinny, blonde hair, blue eyes. He's the complete opposite yet she fell for him & finds him handsome.
I have dream men in my mind for sure, but if a guy turned out to be such an amazing human that I could actually last in a relationship, I don’t think I’d care much about perfect looks. I certainly don’t want over 5’9 and like smaller, skinnier men. I could do dad bod. I don’t think the men on your photos are horrible - they are certainly not my Asian looking dream types but there is nothing inherently repulsive about them. Key is - is he, the person mediocre? I really haven’t met anyone so great in that department that I’ve settled for them, even with hot looks. But I remember a guy once, who was seriously the most charming, exciting and engaging human I’d ever met. He had the daddy of dad bods. But I’ve never been as jealous as I was of his wife. He was always the most attractive and wonderful person in the room.
Was this man really mediocre/unattractive in all physical aspects like I mentioned above? What was his personality like that it was able to "outshine" all his physical shortcomings?
Oh yeah , he was really unimpressive physically. When I first saw him, he didn’t even register as anything other than “person in the room”. But he was so - I dunno how to describe it - unencumbered and open towards me, never sexual, just made me feel like I was part of something amazing when he was around. It’s like he knew my wavelength and I didn’t have to bother figuring out his. Being around him was so natural - we had the same ideas, goofed off in the same way and when we had outings (with his wife lol), it never felt like I was a third wheel. I would always be happy to see him even if my day was otherwise shitty. It was like he supercharged me. We were good friends while I lived there and I’d like to hope he didn’t think of me as a drain either. I also instinctively knew he wouldn’t cheat on his wife lol.
I think the question is "for how long". It's been my experience that women are driven primarily by emotions. Sure she may fall for a guy. But as soon as her projection of who the guy is vs. Who he really is wears off will she still be happy with him? Based on most women responses on G@G it seems like the answer is "no, not really". They may stay with him. But they will be looking for someone else. Lol
This is why I choose to stay single. I never really know who I'm talking to when I talk to most women. You have to be able to trust someone to love them. Most give me no reason to trust them.
I think the person you describe here is the stereotypical “unattractive” guys vs what’s seen in the media as “handsome”.
However I find that amongst my friends and I looks are really not the most important thing. First and foremost everyone has a different opinion of what they think looks pretty and most of the time ttheir “type” is not what you see in the magazines. Secondly looks are for most women just not the most important thing. There had to be something that sparks feelings and interest in the long term (and looks change) for a relationship to work.
I’ve had a boyfriend who could be described as handsome in the mainstream sense of the word (muscular, pretty face, traits commonly seen as desirable) but the spark just wasn’t there. On the other side I’ve had a longterm partner who was not seen as this stereotype (not skinny or muscular, shy, nerdy) and honestly in looks I was super fond of him for over 8y.
Conclusion: every woman like something else, but yes we can be very happy with what’s described above if the person sparks feelings in us. Looks are not everything!
I believe that the people that are less attractive find the one for them more than attractive people do. I notice they are happier, and they make good money in their professional careers. The reason for that is because they stayed home and studied while the really attractive people were more of the partiers that met someone else attractive and it went no where. You just have to seek out a girl that is more in your league and no think about what the attractive people are doing. My Mom used to say "There is someone for everyone." You Jessica st have to be at the right place at the right time.
That's a very woman thing to say. Yes, I am more than sure there is someone for every woman out there. But for guys? ... Yeah, no.
Guys not only outnumber women in the Western world (not in other countries, but in all of the Western ones), so even *if* every woman was heterosexual and every woman was guaranteed to match up with a man, this still wouldn't be true by simple numbers. And jeez, how many straight, single, and relationship-wanting women are even left in 2022? Certainly not that many.

You think and take physical appearance for granted. Your take on modern woman is wildly incorrect. Modern woman don't care about just the looks because they have the mental and emotional capacity to understand that if they want a real man, they need to see what's inside, not what's outside. We live in a free world now where both women and men get to pick their partner or date however they want, but there is plenty and plenty of women who would prefer a fine gentleman who has emotional intelligence and is intellectual over an immature, good looking ass hat.
Ugh. I don't understand why everyone is focused on looks. I went out on a date with someone who was overweight but didn't feel an emotional connection besides friendship and honestly, he felt the same way. It's not about looks. Sure, the personality may be bland but who cares? If you like them enough, go ahead. As long as they're kindhearted, gentle, sweet, and can make me laugh I honestly don't care about their looks to be honest. Just because they're "beautiful" on the outside doesn't mean they're beautiful on the inside. And honestly inside beauty is more ideal to me than the outside beauty.
That's fine and all, but I'm saying... Would you TRULY be happy? Your answer sounds like settling, to me. You wouldn't mind settling for a guy who was nice and had a sense of humor. But if he had nothing going for him on the outside, would you be GENUINELY be happy with that?
Well I've dated 2 guys that people would say had nothing going for them as far as looks go but if they have a good personality it makes up for them not "looking good" and I was happy with first relationship

Most men do NOT care what most women look like. Most of these men (not even me, but "most men") usually just say they don't want a woman who is fat. As for me, I just don't want a woman who has a dick, or likes other women. And I'm pretty sure you've seen this image before, but if not, here it is again.
Aren't looks and personality kinda subjective though? Not all people have the same preferences, interests, beliefs and find the same stuff funny. Obviously these men must have some redeeming quality in their partner's quality, otherwise they wouldn't date them.
Yes of course I would be happy, And if he's like me, likes to play video games, arcade rooms and stay at home than going to bars or parties to have fun. That would be my dream guy lol, my boyfriend is considered mediocre and he can't work at all now due to his disability. Still love him like crazy he's my dream guy just wish he loved horror films that's the only thing I dislike about him. But he's willing to watch them just doesn't love them.
I don’t really fit some of these qualifications, because I’m scrawny and I’m 20.. but I’d say that it’s more complicated for a mediocre guy to find someone as a romantic partner. And I for sure know that because I’ve know guys who this has happened to who didn’t get married or were in a relationship until a bit later on in their life
