Girls, would you want to be a mermaid even if you couldn't breathe underwater and could only live in tropical oceans?

After Animal planet released their fake mermaids documentary in 2012, it got me thinking if a mermaid would be possible.

I thought about it and I could think of how it would be possible and basically their anatomy is the result of sirenomelia (legs being fused at birth) and a skin condition that causes scale like growths on the lower half of their body. Their feet are shaped like a tail fluke because they bind the feet of their babies between two flat rocks to make them grow flat and dye their tail scales. Although without a completely developed pelvis, childbirth would be easier.

But there are some issues like no breathing underwater. Even if they had gills, there isn't enough dissolved oxygen in the water to support a human metabolism. Fish can do it because their metabolism is much slower than ours. So you want to be a mermaid, you've gotta do it like any other marine mammal. Also, if you lived in ocean waters outside the tropics for more than ~hour, you'll freeze to death if you have human torso dimensions.

Girls, would you want to be a mermaid even if you couldnt breathe underwater and could only live in tropical oceans?

So if you wanted to be a mermaid, would you still want to with these constraints?

Although you couldn't breathe underwater, if you had physiological adaptations that other marine mammals have, you'd only have to breathe once every 3 minutes and you could hold your breath for up to 35 minutes.
