Is there a double standard between men and women in terms of commenting on their appearance?

Anonymous
So I was under the impression that it was forbidden to comment on the negative parts of a woman's appearance, or judge them specifically because of a natural part of their body that they can't control.

Well, yesterday I looked in the mirror at my long hair, which was slowly falling out due to male pattern baldness, and I committed to taking the plunge and shaving it off.

You wouldn't even be able to imagine the amount of women that have done various negative things to me in reaction to my new found egg. I don't even think I look bad, infact I really like it and think it looks good on me, but some of the things I've had to put up with are: being called ugly multiple times, having comments in public from random women specifically, being told I look like various ugly celebrities that happen to be bald, having long time friendships cut off, being told I look like a prisoner.

It's almost like I went around telling people I'm a serial killer, it's ridiculous, and it's only coming from women.

If you're a woman reading this, just know how much courage it takes for some men to remove their hair and completely change a huge part of what makes them recognisable, only due to the course of nature. Luckily most of you will never have to understand what it's like to make a decision like this.

Im curious what the experience of other men was when they went bald in their 20s, feel free to share.
