We assume, like with lip gloss application in front of male, that she likes us or she would simply remove herself from the stressful situation. Not necessarily, it could be a nervous habit like some people have already said, but honestly I play with my hair a lot for three reasons. Sometimes because I'm nervous, sometimes because I'm trying to fix it since I'm generally self conscious no matter who I'm around. But I also do it all the time simply because I've formed an unconscious habit, not really a nervous habit.
