I think because women define themselves by a man's interest in her. Men on the other hand (if they are real men) do not define themselves by a woman's.

So women always want that edge on a guy. Mentally she'll never have it. So if she can break a guy down she feels like she's elevated herself in some way. Even though the only thing she's done is exposed her insecurity.
