Is it weird to ask a girl if I can touch her?

My sister said I’m too awkward and shy and that i will 100% ask a girl if i can touch her if i ever dated one. She said its a negative thing

is this a bad thing?

It doesn't seem so romantic to me typically if you have to ask a lot. Usually there's plenty of nonverbal communication to pick up on if you're attentive and only start with small and gentle moves.

Also some confidence helps. Like if you go on a date and want to hold a girl's hand, just stick your hand out there. She can still reject it. It's an offer, not a demand. Yet it's often more confident and persuasive then, "May I hold your hand?"

You might be able ask it though; if you deliver the question in a charming way, that might be kind of cute and charming.

Still, I'd generally err towards nonverbal communication. If you have to ask permission for everything, I think it starts to come off a bit clueless. Being able to read body language is really useful and worth practicing.
