Why is this girl friendly towards new male co-workers then suddenly cold towards them?

Work colleague (female) was nice when I arrived. She was friendly, and we greeted each other. We never introduced ourselves, but whenever we met, we exchanged pleasantries. However, she started ignoring me. I noticed this and returned the favor, but it's a new year, so I decided to start greeting her again. However, she started ignoring me again, and there was a moment when she ignored me face-up.

So today, I was speaking to another colleague about relationships at work. We arrived at the same time but are in different departments. He informed me that she had done the same thing to him as well. He further stated that his departmental colleagues had mentioned that she has attitude issues, and these colleagues have worked there for years, even before her arrival. I didn't mention my interactions with her, and the only reason she came up was because I told him I'd only try my luck in the girls' department because we are not the same company.

My best guess is she probably likes the attention at first when a new guy shows up. But once you've been around for a bit, the thrill is gone so she moves on to the next new dude. Rinse and repeat, ya know?

Or maybe she gets creeped out easy and thinks you're hitting on her or something when really you're just being friendly. Girls can be so sensitive!

Either way it sounds like her moods aren't your problem. As long as you're just chillin and doing your job, who cares if she acts bitchy. Don't take it personally.

I'd just ignore her mood swings from now on. Be polite but keep your distance so she can't say you're bothering her or something crazy. Keep it professional.

Don't stress about one grumpy chick. Focus on cool coworkers instead who actually wanna chat! Seems like you dodged a bullet if she's got a rep for attitude anyway.
