Some (not all) women in today's culture in the USA are very shallow and materialistic. They value the things that they think will impress their girlfriends more than they worry about impressing men. So designer clothing, hand bags, shoes, and eyeglasses are things they covet. A trophy husband and a McMansion is another thing on their wish list. For some reason travel seems to be a status symbol for them. And then jewelry remains a big status item that allows them to "one up" their BFF's.

But again, men are not something care about. They are competing with other women and talking behind each other's backs. Damn, I'm glad I'm a man.
