I think they do generally speaking, BUT gifts DO NOT make a girl change her mind or her heart about you. So for all the guys out there going with this logic of buying her something nice so that she loves you in my opinion you are wrong. It will not work.

It depends. if you're dating a materialistic gold digger who's in it for the Gucci handbag, then yeah, that short term dopamine high from expensive gifts may keep her around temporarily. But she's probably not ultimately capable of love or self sacrifice.

But for most women who have at least moderate self respect, material things are probably not going to make them love you. It may have the opposite effect and create resentment at the implication that you think they can be bought.

That's why (I think) the best gifts are small personal things or gestures that have meaning but not necessarily a large price tag. Just hey, I'm paying attention, I see you, I remember things you say, and I thought you may appreciate this.
