Do women play off/ignore good looking men in public because they assume they are cocky and uninterested?

I've read comments from women elsewhere where they say they ignore good looking guys they pass because they feel the guys know they look good and she doesn't want to inflate his ego (relative to his impression of her) anymore.- And if anything, maybe the good looking guy will see this girl ignoring him and be brought down a peg.

Now, is the basis of this feeling from women the idea that even average guys rarely show interest in public, so of course if a guy is good looking he's even more likely to be uninterested? Is women's behavior here really a defensive position reacting to men not approaching or showing interest in the past- so they assume that "if the last 100 ugly and average guys didn't show interest in me, then of course Brad Pitt over is probably not gonna even notice me at all. So why not play him off and act like I'm not interested first before he gets a chance to do it to me." ?

You just hit the nail on the head! That's true for me...actually its funny because all my friends and even strangers compliment me on how beautiful I am, but I feel like guys always ignore me for other girls who are supposedly less attractive. I always feel like being attractive doesn't matter because it doesn't seem to help me get guys, but you pointing this out makes me realize that I do the EXACT same thing to a lot of intimidating, hot guys.

Its really silly isn't it? This post is making me realize I've got to make some changes. = )

I only ignore them if they look unintelligent but honestly...if I feel like if there's an attractive guy looking at me, I think hook up, not relationship. My reasoning is that attractive guys tend to stray once I'm dating them. I won't tolerate cheating so I end it before it happens. My experience with good looking men has taught me that they only break your heart :/

Oh and if I see a good looking guy or any guy talking to another girl and then coming and talking to me, I will purposefully snub them. It's not nice, but hey I've got an ego to. Sometimes they have it coming and it feels so good :)

That is not right... :( I hope one day you meet a good looking guy who will not cheat on you and you find out that he was good then you will beg for him to stay lol.

Yes they do, sometimes they even go out of their way to be rude just to really make sure to show you that they are not interested while in fact it is the opposite. To me this doesn't make sense, they ignore 80% of men and always complain nobody is attractive or their type and finally their perfect type shows up and they make sure to be a dick towards them.

I am good at reading social cues so when they play this foolish hard to get game out of insecurity I make sure to never pay any attention to them for the rest of their entire life even if she is from my social circle. I love confident women that don't play mind games personally. My best interactions with women are with those that right of the bat show interest.

But there are also a lot of bold women out there so this does not apply to all women, definitely not a universal thing. If you significantly above average they will let you know through body language and other non-verbal cues. It will be so obvious that you probably yourself already know.

I tend to not go for the extremely good looking guys. Either because I don't think they'll be interested, or I'm worried they'll be too in demand. I'm pretty confident with myself, but I still have jealous issues. I couldn't handle girls trying to get at my mind all the time! haha

Luckily, I care much more about personality & "chemistry".

Well...it's not because I think he is full of himself or anything...It's just that when I see a man that I'm physically attracted to...I will go out of my way to step aside...because I assume that he'd never be interested in me, and that he's already taken

The ones that do hope that he chases after her lol. Most women would not hesistate to jump at an attractive guy. I have seen it time and time again. Women are visual too. They will never admit to it.
