Are shy girls able to hold eye contact for more than 5 seconds?

i always thought she was a shy girl... the other day she held eye contact for more than 5 seconds. she's obviously not shy, right? or am I wrong? since when are shy girls able to hold eye contact for such a long time?

No it doesn't matter whether they are shy or not, plus 5 seconds is a long time, I think 2-3 seconds is normal without there being a creeper type vibe. I used to be shy and still am a little bit but if I am interested in a guy, I will hold his gaze for a few no problem.

I am shy, and mostly I try to avoid eye contact, but with some people I can hold it, but not always and not with everyone :)

uh that's not very long...sometimes people go into a daze and realize a person is in their view..eye contact doesn't mean anything unless your talking to the person.

Its not really a good way to determine shyness..

for more than 5 seconds = could be 123821830219 million seconds. a girl is unable to hold eye contact for more than 5 seconds unless she's very confident. even macho guys get intimidated when I look them in the eyes. the fact she didn't look away quickly is pretty impressive.

I believe it is NOT reliable to know if a person is shy or not by them looking in your eyes. I am shy - I don't have confidence- but I know that I look at a person when I talk to them. Because I mean what I say. Macho men do look away because its what ever personality the person has. could be a bad habit to stare at everything in sight or go into a daydream and not care what your talking about. :)

no, looking away equals admitting defeat. macho guys do this (stare down) to show who is boss/alpha male. the guy who looks away first admits defeat. I'm not talking about looking at a person when you talk to them. I'm talking about staring at another person/making intense eye contact without talking to them. many people find it threatening/intimidating/creepy. shy girls can't handle this.

right, it mostly has to do with the persons personality = shy or confident people. that's what I wrote. shy and weak people can't do this. staring contest = dominance contest.

only for the macho men. shy and weak aren't -why because there is daydreaming, distractions, not interested, ADD, adhd or what ever other disorder what if the person is blind does that make them shy ?

that's why I wrote starring contest-ur funny I don't really care about this.. its too narrow minded. You cannot determine the person right off the bat if they are shy cause they do or don't make eye contact with u. It could be the time of day maybe they are tired or just surprised to see you.
