I find blocking to be the most cowardice thing someone can do
I mean, it's one thing if they're just tossing insults, but most blocking occurs when someone can't beat someone's logic, so they toss a bunch of insults along with the rest of their flimsy logic, then blocks them while getting the last word
I got into an argument with a feminazi (surprise surprise) and she tried to cite the internet as a whole as a reason of rape culture... the INTERNET. The land of the Memes and home of the Trolls. She blocked me while firing off her flimsy logic
I block people as a last resort when people are very annoying. Apparently I find people very annoying in general because I have over 100 people blocked.
Usually I block people when their ego out weighs their wisdom. Sometimes I also block intentionally rude people. There are mature ways to disagree but some people on here think their pains and experiences in life are the standard to which all others must bow down to. Thankfully I've only come across two of them so far.
Generally folks block me if they run out of arguments (i. e. have nothing to say in return when I throw some armor-piercing question or fact) or when they disagree with what I have to say.
I block people a lot. Usually it's because they're creepy (either they ask me weird questions and are quite persistent, they send me pictures, or ask for my phone number. Ick.). I also block people if they're rude or insulting.
Blocking is a weak way of dealing with things you don't like. I have seen "Ignorant" being claimed when facts are presented to some. It's also been used against people who correct or disagree with opinions. Disagreeing has also been shamed as being "disrespectful" or "Rude" when it isn't. It's simply someone not having the back bone to deal with criticism.
i don't block people, if a person doesn't agree with me or is a racist then i just ignore them by not replying anymore. i get blocked sometimes for the reasons above but i don't bother blocking them back.
I usually block them if they start insulting me. I am not here to be insulted or called names. Or if they are a new user saying something sexist or racist. I pretty much just assume they are hateful trolls that typically won't hang around for more than a few days anyway. Most of the people I block don't hang around for long. They aren't the type that have come to this site to be helpful, or to have an open mind to get honest advice that isn't telling them what they want to hear.
I get the whole make someone uneasy and block thing, but let me see if I understand this. The original poster blocks people because they do not give or reveal the "facts," and in the same post says it is okay to have an opinion and disagree (and implies one shouldn't be blocked for having an opinion) ... *sigh*
All blocked people on my list are creeps. I block people who are rude and obnoxious to me for a little while after warning them that if they don't leave me alone I will block them, then I will unblock them (they usually don't bother me after that).
I get using it for the creeps, but I still can't see the need to block because somebody is an idiot. Just ignore them. I get into plenty of arguements with morons that refuse to accept logic and fact, but why block them? That only makes you look weak.
I don't even block people on my Facebook. Unless somebody is harrasing me, I can go all day debating my point and I can just as easily forget they even exist.
Well, I'd argue that if they're not using logic or facts, you should call them out on that, and step up your own argumentation game, instead of blocking them for it.
I don't _think_ I have blocked anyone here, but I have been blocked, most recently by someone who couldn't deal with being wrong on someone else's thread. It sucks because it makes it look as though I had no reply, when I totally did.
There is nothing wrong with blocking others no matter the reason. People don't HAVE to listen to what you say. They have every right to block you whether you like the reason or not. "Not something to be abused". There is no way to abuse that, lol. Just because you can't say what you want to that person or look at their profile or whatever doesn't mean they're doing something wrong. I don't know what's with this site and shaming people for blocking others.
You are right the are no way to abuse it since it a feature, but the way it's implemented on GaG is abusive in nature. Sure, if it only affected you no problem, but giving you the ability to impose censorship at will is abusive.
@oracle12c There's nothing abusive about it at all. Yes. It's so terrible for people to be able to ignore your comments. The horror. They have every right to. People need to get over themselves.
Nope you don't get the point, it's not people being able to ignore my comments, it's people being able to prevent me from rebuttal their comments. If you don't have the last comments blocking is fine, but it's not ok for you to say some shit and then block before any rebuttal can be made - it's passive aggressive behaviour, and the GaG system supports this.
I don't blame people for using it's passive aggressive feature, I blame GaG for allowing it, and implementing this feature this way.
Of course it is. If you do not want to read what someone else has to say, fine, but the way blocking is implemented here censors other viewpoints completely from the debate.
Oh, there are many out there who do it out of ignorance or fearing a challenging response - i. e., something they can't respond to because they know they're wrong and not very bright... xD
Whenever I see somebody say something completely illogical, overly hostile, or outright bigoted, I immediately block them. The chance I'll get anything of value from reading them is too small to put up with them.
good my take. i have onely blocked one person well being on here because of your first reason you stated. some people just like to argue so i blocked them
Does insult includes saying stuff you don't like hearing, because nobody block any body without any reason, but what's constitutes insults is a matter of personal opinion?
For instance saying you are pro life or pro choice is enough to be insulting for some, pro gay rights or against homosexuality, or being religious or anti religious is considered insulting for some.
@oracle12c if someone said "I don't think that gays should get married" I'd be like "I respect your opinion even though it's wrong". But if they said "all gays should kill themselves" then they would be blocked.

same here.

Ill be nexttttttt
What's constitutes an insults is a matter of personal opinion, so you could be right or wrong, depending on how sensitive your are.
I never block anyone for any reason.

"Creepy" is subjective.

Most of the people on my list who blocked me did so for kind of petty reasons.
everyone who's blocked me did it because I proved them wrong on a topic and they got mad.
I usually block them if they start insulting me. I am not here to be insulted or called names. Or if they are a new user saying something sexist or racist. Obnoxious is a matter of personal opinion, you may be easily offend or not, it is all subjective.
I get using it for the creeps, but I still can't see the need to block because somebody is an idiot. Just ignore them. I get into plenty of arguements with morons that refuse to accept logic and fact, but why block them? That only makes you look weak.
cause it's kinda BS when its constant and from the same people. I actually only have like 10 people blocked
I don't even block people on my Facebook. Unless somebody is harrasing me, I can go all day debating my point and I can just as easily forget they even exist.

@oracle12c It IS okay. They don't want to see your reply. Simple as that.
They don't have to.
Complaining about something like that is so petty.
@Izzex3
No, the problem is not the ability to block, but the ability to have the last word before blocking - did you get my point now?
Blocking = ok
Having the last word = ok
Having the last word THEN blocking to prevent rebuttal = NOT ok
Of course it is. If you do not want to read what someone else has to say, fine, but the way blocking is implemented here censors other viewpoints completely from the debate.

"all gays should kill themselves" is antagonistic/offensive and should be reported, so that's a legitimate reason for blocking as well.
