New GAG Community -Live Feed- Update For May 2023!!!

Hello GAG Community!

We know how often you visit our ''Live Feed'' page, from our previous surveys. So, we made an improvement on ''Live Feed'' and designed a much simpler and easier page for you! 🙌

So, what has changed on GAG?

- There are 2 tabs on the ''Live Feed'' section, now. You can discover what's happening on the site from the ''Discover'' tab without any filtering, or you can see only the activities of the users you follow from the ''My Feed'' tab.

- You can read all the opinions by clicking the opinions box below the questions.

- If the user you follow shares an opinion on Live Feed, you can see and like their opinion without being redirected to the page of the question. You can directly reply the opinion of the member you follow, on the Live Feed page.

- We've also improved our filters. Now, you can filter ''topics'' and ''post types'' as well.

I do like the type of direction you're thinking of going in, but I do heavily prefer the original one. The main problem in the UI design/layout of the new live page is that title and response to a question blend in together, which makes it unpleasing for the eye to look at - they don't stand out enough.

Here are two examples I edited by taking UI from your website:

purple marks - makes each post/response stand out more by separating them

I think these changes give out a lot more information than your version. It states the topic of the post, colored titled based on gender, and badges/symbols about the question. I understand you likely didn't add colored titles to try to make the live feed page stand out, but I readded them. I prefer them visually and they help categorize shit.

Anyway, I'm not sure if I am a big fan of this type of layout anyway. Right now it feels awkward annoying to sort through, yet my version feels cluttered. I think you should hire a UI designer or multiple of them to figure out the best layout for it. Hell, even ask people about it before updating to get their opinion.

Well, I just want to say that while I love this site, I am about as technophobic as they come and therefore have actually never used the "Live Feed" feature. One of this site's chief secondary features being its' ease of use and simple format.

That said as preface, I do appreciate that this site is constantly attempting to improve itself and make itself more appealing to its' audience. That is not an easy thing to do and they may not always get it right, but the effort is appreciated.

Again, this I say as one who has been on this site a number of years and has never used the "Live Feed" feature. Having said that, I must say that I am appalled at some of the reactions here.

Yup, G@G may not always get it right - but it does not deserve some of the ill mannered snark I see here. Maybe the problem is less the site than the ill mannered users. Such people are unlikely to be pleased no matter what the site does.

My thanks to G@G for being such a fun and friendly site. I do appreciate it.

Honestly, it is not good. It does not update with '5 new opinions' or whatever it used to say. You just have to refresh the page constantly. Then, clicking on a question opens a new page in my browser entirely.

Also, as a moderator, you really handicapped us because now I cannot see the details of the questions, nor if any images were posted. That means I now have to click every single question to check, which then opens tons of new windows in my browser.

This was not a worthwhile investment of time if you ask me. So many other things are needed and all this has done was make it worse. It isn't even a feed anymore because of the manual refresh I have to do. I am better off just sticking to the "Questions" tab and refreshing that. At least there, I can see if any images that are explicit were posted without having to open the question and a new tab.

Exactly. We need so many different things and per usual, none of them are addressed, just changes none of us asked for or like. Hell we desperately need new mods or upgraded mods, we are overwhelmed and under supported, but we just get crickets.

These topics were part of a gag joke we did on April Fools Day years ago. They may have temporarily been placed on accident as they are still in the system, but they should not be there now.

Personally I think the old one was easier to navigate, it's nice your team is trying new things. I respect that, after going so long without much change to the site (let alone the basically forgotten GaG app for phones)

How about adding a feature for users to beta test or preview upcoming updates? That way you can kinda gather more feedback before it goes live to everyone else? Just a thought, other websites do this quite effectively. 👍

Overall I'd say this was a good effort, thanks for keeping the community informed on new updates, I hope your team doesn't get too discouraged by the results of feedback from this one though. I'm happy new things are being tested and implemented honestly. 🙂

I like it because you can tell, the admin/ or creation/innovation team is trying to downplay any gender aggression, which may even happen unintentionally/subconsciously in seeing the pink and blue. The purple is nice, but only understood as being neutral/ inclusive when you have all three.

I like how it (this update) doesn't show/ has less emphasis on the user's names (in pink or blue) and highlights on the actual content: question/ poll.

But really, as seriously as anyone would wish to take it (this site). It does help to have dividers in place. For me, I just tend to love color, and this is one of the reasons I do love Gag more than Quora. If you're trying to copy the frameworks of Reddit, that's okay, but Reddit also does have dark mode, and some color balances. I feel like this look on GaG doesn't give the same look as Reddit does.

If you wish to eliminate colors, try finding some other way to add distinction, so it doesn't all blur? It's kind of growing on me, though.

Everyone is usually emotionally charged on GaG lol.. so they may hate it, but come to like it. I think you did this like the 'like buttons' addition- to remove/ lower hostility?

I never use the Live Feed or anything else for that matter.

That takes me directly to "Girls Questions" which is what I am interested in. This way, I "eliminate the middle man" of having to deal with the homepage or feeds or anything else.

I don't like the format. I much prefer when the questions are colored. With the new format, I can't even tell the questions from the answers. There are no photos, either.
It's just not interesting.

In the future, perhaps you might consider making some changes that would actually have a positive impact on usability? Like maybe fixing the downvote so it actually works. Or, if you're not going to do that, at least remove it. It's worse than pointless to have it if it doesn't work.

Yeah the my feed sucks. I had to scroll 5 minutes to get past all the responses from a person I follow questions. The question was of no interest to me so why would I want to read the 100 replies she had to people who answered her question. Second, there isn't enough of a difference in font or boldness to let me know when fast scrolling that I was past it.
