Introducing Title Assist on GAG

You have a real question in your head — something personal, confusing, or important — but turning it into one short, clear title feels harder than asking the question itself.

• If it’s too long, people won’t read it.
• If it’s too short, no one understands it.
• If the title is unclear, the question gets lost in the feed.

And on GAG, titles matter. 🎯

So What’s Changing?

We’re introducing a Title Assist feature designed to help make question titles clearer and easier to understand — without changing what you’re asking.

When you write a question and click preview, the system may suggest a clearer, more polished version of your title.

It will:

• Keep your original meaning
• Improve clarity and readability
• Help others understand what you’re actually asking

That’s it.

What This Is NOT:

Let’s address this directly.

• It is not rewriting your opinion.
• It is not censoring your content.
• It is not changing your message.
• It is not mandatory.

You’ll see the suggested version before posting. You can accept it, edit it yourself, or turn the feature off entirely. You remain in control.

Why We’re Doing This

GAG is built on discussion. A strong discussion starts with a clear question. Many good questions don’t get engagement simply because the title doesn’t reflect what the user actually means.

This update is meant to:

• Reduce misunderstandings
• Improve question quality
• Help thoughtful posts get the attention they deserve

Nothing more.

Your Voice Still Comes First

We know some members are cautious about AI tools. That’s completely fair. This feature exists only to assist — not to replace your voice. If you prefer writing your titles exactly as you wish, you absolutely can.

We believe clearer communication leads to better conversations — and that’s what GAG has always been about.

Better titles may improve discoverability and clarity, but meaningful discussions ultimately depend on thoughtful users, strong moderation, and a culture that encourages quality contributions.

Title Assist risks encouraging over-standardization of questions. Online communities thrive on authentic, human phrasing. If too many questions start sounding optimized or formulaic due to AI suggestions, the platform could lose some of the natural tone that makes discussions interesting and relatable.

Hope it increases the engagement. Let's see.

Lol, I found this out this morning when posting a question and it kept changing my title and I'm like wtf? I felt like the AI was fighting me and telling me I'm too stoopid to post a question.

So I just posted a question and it was infuriating because it kept changing what I was saying too, and wording it completely wrong. But apparently you can check the option for "Get title support" off. Took me a few tries before I realized you could. Not sure if you saw that or not. Just wanted to share.

How about removing the AI.

Remove the anonymous option or make it possible to hide ALL their nonsense.

Allow us to edit our questions.

These ideas have been around for years, but what do we get? Diddly squat!

Another AI "feature" no one asked for. "Keep your original meaning", um no it doesn't, just tried posting a question, and this AI title assist junk changed the meaning of my question. Maybe instead of forcing this feature on everyone, give us user the option when reviewing our question to choose between out original question and the title assist.

This is all great, but I do have an off topic suggestion. Some of these questions are getting more and more ridiculous. Therefore, please consider turning on post approval. (Think of what admins of Facebook groups do). A lot of these questions need to be screened before being published. Anyway, just a suggestion. Thank you.

I've been on this platform on-and-off for over a decade. Question and MyTake titles were always perfectly understandable to anyone capable of reading at an acceptable level.

So maybe let's not implement features that cater to the lowest denominator of "people."

Actually, there are many reasons a post may not get much engagement like posting anonymously or at the wrong time, when most people are asleep.
Also, a question might be too niche for this forum or require more specialized knowledge than the average Gagger has. This doesn't necessarily mean they're objectively shit
I've seen some questions with tons of comments, despite being rather generic, so this is subjective in my opinion 🤷‍♀️
