R. I. P Chivalry
Where did all the gentlemen go?
R. I. P Chivalry
I'm right here. I am very proud to treat women properly. But in this day and age hold a door open for her makes you a sexist-bigoted-misogynist. But I have to treat you all they way yo should be treated - its in the blood, or maybe its a Marine thing. Either way, we're still around.
I've heard several women say the same thing here before, and a big part of it, is SO many women today are only attracted to good-looking assholes. With the exception of all the jerkoffs at that building, the main problem is when you girls are looking. Kansas, for example, will yield you a better crop of men than here in New Jersey.
Your thoughts, Sweetheart?
Welcome to an equal rights society.
Also a lot of guys don't do this stuff for women because it's not appreciated. I've held doors open and let women through first and got no thanks for them. It's as if it's to be expected.
Such arrogant behaviour doesn't deserve chivalry; manners cost nothing.
I always say thank you, I actually appreciate it, which is why I noticed that none of them did it.
As I say men are not obliged to follows the old traditions of yesterday. If they don't want to hold doors open for women or let women through first then they don't have to.
Because nowadays, people don't tell their sons that they're handsome and smart, they tell them they're a heartbreaker and will have all the girls and be a little player.
What people teach boys nowadays is different to what boys were taught previously. I worry so much about having kids, because if I have a daughter, she's got shitty choices and if I have a son he'll be called a "white knight" and people will act as if he's a moron for being a good man.
Things have certainly changed. These days, its not the women themselves who want to work and be financially independent, even the men seem to prefer career women, and that's definitely not because they are promoting equal rights. Chivalry is out, and selfishness is in.
when i was in north American id have guys watching me working carrying heavy stuffs... They would only watch and never help. While here in Brazil as soon as a guy sees u with heavy stuffs to carry or in trouble they would help in no time.
I actually think that question should go both ways tbh... Welcome to the modern day world, crude, rude, and attitude is what you get ;) The good ones are rare now, when you find one, don't you dare let go!

You'll get out through that door eventually, just because you're female you won't get extra benefits unless they feel like being extra nice, but apparently these guys didn't bother with that. It happens.
Yep, chivalry is dead. Maybe now we can get some equality up in here.
I have a dream of a world where it doesn't matter what's between your legs, but what is between your head. I world where no matter who you are, if you act like a retard you get called a retard. A world where wanting to sleep with someone does not exclude them from the common sense wish list. And a world where being attractive is not the same thing as being better than everyone else.
So chivalry is dead, good. That's progress.
Chivalry is dead unfortunately.
As a boy I was taught ABOUT chivalry, but it wasn't part of the list of manners that were instilled in me. I did it for a while but quickly got tired of it as the reward wasn't worth the effort.
Seriously, when was the last time a guy got laid/loved because he held a door open? I'm sure a majority of women appreciate it, but appreciation isn't really what we're after. Its a perk at best.
People (including guys) what to be loved... not the platonic kind. Chivalry just doesn't accomplish that for us.
So, basically most of the answers are "if I get nothing out of it, I don't do it." isn't that a tad bit selfish? What about making someone else feel just a little bit better cuz someone did something nice for them? People these days are all about "me, myself and i" .. Why not think of others once in a while? It's really sad that people can't do something nice for others without expecting something better in return. I guess this is why girls like myself get taken advantage of.
"So, basically most of the answers are "if I get nothing out of it, I don't do it." isn't that a tad bit selfish?" It is selfish and that, unfortunately, is human nature.
"What about making someone else feel just a little bit better cuz someone did something nice for them? ... Why not think of others once in a while? ..." Don't get me wrong, the occasional random act of kindness is great. You seem to be complaining that these acts of kindness don't occur often enough.
The thing is, people only give when they can afford to give. In the long run, I think you'll find that no one is going to put your best interests before their own. Even your best friend is "using" you because you make them happy, and are pleasant to be around. The moment you're not fun anymore, the friendship is over.
"I guess this is why girls like myself get taken advantage of" Now you're just being a victim. It's not selfish to avoid "giving" your way into poverty/depression.
Dear girls: MAKE UP YOUR MINDS.
www.girlsaskguys.com/.../q1211494-is-it-bad-for-a-girl-to-let-a-guy-go-first
Sincerely,
The gents.
Dear guys: one entitled dumbshit does not represent the rest of us, so stop referring to these questions as "dear girls", because I certainly did not get a vote in this bullshit and neither did the rest of us.
Sincerely,
The sane girls.
I would love for a huge 'one moron doesn't represent the rest of the gender' banner across the top of the page so we could make little jokes and relax and laugh at the stupidity instead of getting all shitty and defensive about everything.
the girl who asked did the same thing to the guys.
But... that way you have defeated the point of your original comment. :P
@MaskedSanity And so we're back around to "make up your mind" LMAO
If a whole group of people is already in the process of exiting the building, then it would have to be the whole group stopping collectively to let you in, not just one person. Logistically, trying to get a large group to do that takes more time and effort than just getting everyone through the door.
It also depends on the size of the group. If it's a whole auditorium of people coming out, then it would be polite to let the other person in on a basis of time. If it's a group of, say, 20 people, then you may just have to wait patiently for fifteen seconds.
Female individuals fight for equality. When they get it, they complain. What is a man supposed to do? We're confused on what to do now. As kheserthorpe stated, some women even start to complain if a man lets a woman through, because it is the opposite of the equality they want and now it can even be called sexist because apparently, by doing that, you have labelled them as a weaker sex.
Is this really a question? I still tend to let women go through first, but I'm old...
Boys are not taught to do this any more. And some women actively complain when men do it. Not many, but a few.
Realistically I will note that chivalry was traditionally from a position of strength. It was not so guys could get laid. But men were instilled with the idea that they were -stronger- and hence -responsible- for weaker women.
In recent decades (including my childhood tbh, but how much this happens depends not only on your age but where you grew up) we have to a large extent tried to instill the idea that men and women are the same, while occasionally making men feel responsible for women. And that doesn't exactly work right.
I predict this post is going to become another debate about feminism.

I'd love to have a pet raccoon but my number 1 pic for a pet would be a red panda.

Oh my god, that is so adorbs. :333
Honestly us GENTLEMEN are still her it's just ye girls treat us like shit. Now I am a genuinely nice guy never do anything illegal and always help others, but everyday in college and every day life I stop and hold doors open for girls. Anyway the one thing that frustrates me more than anything is when I hold a door open for them they don't even acknowledge my existence but yet if they saw a good looking guy holding a door open for them there all over them and they can't say thanks enough. Don't even speak to me about how girls treat us on social night's seriously all girls want now day's are ass hole's
Lol meow!
@misscoffeehead bahahaa~!
im just trying to picture this correctly because.. I don't know im kinda dumb right now hahaa :D okay so like basically you're trying to leave and then a bunch of d00ds start walking through the same door you're trying to go through and its basically like 300 so they won't let you in until they all finished walking through?
Use your light saber next time.. Duhhh? Lol
img.izismile.com/.../daily_gifdump_649_11.gif
@misscoffeehead hey you need to give that back to me. you still have mine!
Hmm.. Nope.. AHAHAHA *runs away*
@misscoffeehead bruh.. bruh!! i will take Big Red!
Meh I don't really mind man.. Take it.. I'm getting a freaking vrod man! Yeahhhh *pumps hands in the air"
@misscoffeehead d00d r u fyreals? that'd be bad ass! I've been watching Sons of Anarchy lately so eets all guud :D get a Vrod sista!
Hell Yeah I'm searching for ones under or 30,000 on the clock online.. It's like a third of the price compared to one in the shops ๐ on top of that I need to change my gear ๐ I can't wear textiles on a vrod.. Talking about real good quality leather here! Plus a different helmet (open face helmet) plus one of those plain black mask heheh excited! Dying from excitement here! I might have to give it a custom paint job at my mates garage if I want it all in matte black ๐ argh more money lol
@misscoffeehead hahaa let me know how much it cost when you buy one, I want an idea of the price, even if its in Aussie. I know brand new they're like $30k or something. I gotta check the website again. I would be so excited to buy new gear HAHAA! d00d I would get a bad ass black leather jacket, and leather pants, nice cut boots, really cool gloves, and then probably a full on out black helmet, maybe full face or a really sick half one. its gonna be bad ass!
Haha yeah sure thing man.. I asked the Harley Davidson dealers they vary on which model you want so your looking at 20,000-40,000 for a brand new one.. I know you can get some online for 10,000-17,000 which makes a big difference! You just have to look around and wait it out a bit.
Haha YEAHH I already got my boots and my pants, I just want a new leather bike jacket and helmet lol yeah I'm not going to spend much on the bike because I want my Mini Cooper more lol ๐
@misscoffeehead shit 10-17 I can sling easily, but I don't wanna spend $40k for a new one, especially when I got my 636 already. but yeah im gonna be keeping my eyes on CL for a while to spot some good deals, the thing that sucks is everyone always marks up a Harley just because of the name. shitty. aww Mini Cooper :D im still waiting for you to order yours in powder blue.
Yeah man 10k-17k. Pretty good huh? ๐ I'm just waiting around for a good one. Yeah I mean I ain't paying 40k for a new one. Plus I don't like breaking in the engine it's something I hate doing I just want to be able to buy it and ride it lol yeah it's a Harley we are talking about.. Not a ninja or a cbr. Yeah little mimz ๐ I haven't ordered one in yet because I hate waiting ๐ lol but I guess I should, i do get the colour combination I want ๐๐
@misscoffeehead yeah 10k is not bad at all, I would pay 10k for a V-Rod. and I don't wanna break it in either, so annoying, especially on a cruiser. omgee... really? *facepalm* we were talking about you ordering a mini cooper like 2 months ago d00d hahaa :D why didn't you order it sooner? it would've been ready for you probably by now. yeah d00d get that powder blue or that orange one with black stripes or something :)
Yeah would be looking at 70,000 on the clock probs a bit more for 10k you really wouldn't want it to be over 30,000 on the clock realistically.
Lmfao exaggerate much ๐ it wasn't 2 months ago! It was 3 months ago! Haha kidding kidding. Yeah I'll choose either a sky blue one with white racing stripes or a sky blue one with black racing stripes.. Lol I don't know ๐ too much choices ๐
@misscoffeehead if its maintained well then I won't worry about the mileage. Harley owners tend to keep their shit clean for the most part, its all pride. but I rather have 30 than 70. hahaa get that coops. powder blue will suit you nice.
I know right! These Harley guys are just polishing there chrome to Spick and span. What happened to keeping it filthy and dirty? (Or is that just me ๐) haha nah it's a tough cruiser, I rather keep it dirty lol
Oh yeah! Me and mimz ๐
not all men are like that. i happen to know lots of guys who are very polite and respectful. plus it all depends on how someone is raised. you can't judge a book by it cover. and don't put a stereotype on men because a couple guys didn't do what you wanted them to do.
It's chivalrous to open or hold a door for a woman, but not to hold up a group of people all trying to go. Maybe the last guy could have held the door for you. But you shouldn't complain, it's a luxury afforded to you because we're stupid. You're not entitled to have a door opened for you any more than guys are.
I was raised to be a gentleman and I haven't gone anywhere. I apply the code when it applies in life.
Well it appears in our society that any act of chivalry done by the male is considered either sexist or flirtatious
The fact that if I hold a door open I apparently like you is absurd, therefore I will reserve my "chivalry" for people I actually like
They all diapered when they realized there were no ladies around any more. How is a gentleman supposed to charm the knickers off a lady when she isn't wearing any? How is a gentleman to lay his velvet cloak across a puddle for a lady when she is lying in said puddle covered in vom? Double standards.
And why exactly should they have let you in?
Please describe in extensive detail why should have right of way.
you*
Personally, I hold the door open for anyone, irrespective of whether the person is a man or a woman. But then, expecting it to be done just because you're a woman isn't very fair and I don't blame the people who don't do it. When we throw away traditions to uphold equality (I favour that move), we need to throw away the meaningless traditions favourable to women too.
They were all destroyed when the feminist intercontinental ballistic missile hit them and turned us into assholes.
I prefer being polite and generally not treating women differently than i do men.
FICBM holy shit!
But now they renamed it. it's now called a FICBM (feminist Inter-Continental Bitching Missile).
@BertMacklinFBI
Why should they let you go first? Because you're a female? LOL...
Sorry, but feminism erased that privileged for you. Welcome to the world pf equality that you fought so hard for.
Oh I held the door open for this girl that was like 40 feet away at the gym the other day. She was really surprised :) It may sound corny but I do like to give people the feeling there are people that care about others.
I did the same shit, and then of course it turned into a train of people. I was holding that damn door for like 20 fucking seconds.
I get this bullshit every day on the subway. You stop to let someone out through the gate and more and more follow... meanwhile, your train is leaving...
@BertMacklinFBI Yeah I've had that happen when it's really busy but they will usually grab the door and sort of help lol. This girl looked at me like "for me really?" I don't know that's what I though.
To expect men to do that, means you would have to fit the bill of being "typical woman"
stay at home
cook
clean
always dress to impress
great partner with a drink as he comes home and hangs up his fedora
Exactly ^_^ some folk do it because they want to, but for women who EXPECT a man to do stuff like that, they should understand the other side of the coin
Those young men are still out there. Not just done for women but for anyone in general. Its the polite thing to do than to just walk by and see that girl or guy standing there waiting.
I still hold doors open but I guess it's just a way I was brought up.. I can remember one real case where I did not hold a door open because she pretty much let it slam right in my face I ended up returning the favor
I used to hold the door open for everyone, but lately I'll only hold it open for men and older women. Young women rarely ever say thank you. I'd rather let it slam in their face than have them stroll through with a nasty attitude. 99% of men will say thanks in my experience.
They are few and far between, i think if u want to find a gentlemen you will have to be transported back to the 1920's haha
I actually held the door open for a group of grandmas yesterday, their smiles were just adorable :)
I'm 16 and I always try to be a gentleman, but I agree with you, a lot of guys these days don't care about that stuff anymore...
Gentlemen and chivalry are endangered and near extinct species.
Yeah, I think you are just one of the guys since you are a friend.
TV killed the Radio star.
Feminism killed the chivalry..
.. jokes&propaganda ;), they still exist. But more often found in people who don't try to act tough etc.
What benefit goes a guy get from a girl, by holding a door open?
It's common courtesy.. Why are people so selfish these days to think "what do I get out of it?" why not do it because it's the polite thing to do and you make someone else's day slightly better by showing them kindness?
Yeah, you wanted to be treated as equals, there was a big thing about it in the 1960's. Look it up.
thats because there aren't enough true ladies out there for us to continue.
i always said gentleman is for a lady and an asshole is for a bitch.
what happened to all the ladies? the ones who are gentle, conservative and caring?
I'm still here. Please don't paint us all the same.
I don't really care. I'll hold the door for all types of people, it's just what I was taught to do. I'm far from being a "gentleman" though.
Chivalry and feminism can't co-exist.
As for it being rude on a completely gender-neutral level, sure. But that's got nothing to do with chivalry.
We do not need people to open doors for us and shiz. WE CAN DO IT OURSELVES
i totally agree with you and i wonder the same thing sometimes :(
and LOL at the immature "boys" blaming their lack of manners and their ignorance of chivalry on feminism ! lmao pathetic
Hiding in the corner while other men procreate, it'll get worse with each generation.
Ask your feminist buddies
Not all men are like that. kindve like how most of us aren't "proper ladies"
Nope i wait for females... and for those is just how they have been brought up...
i think all the gentlemen are standing somewhere wiping the ass of some lady but with due respect.
I try to be as chivalrous as possible, I may miss a few beats, but, I try as best I can to be
same place all the cowboys have gone. ;)
I still open doors for women.
Baby I'd do anything for u if u were mine ;3
Quit telling the world how selfish you are...
They're with the good girls
Lol. Troll elsewhere please.
At my bus stop haha :D
Erm taken? Lol
Hahaha I think you have your answer Asker haha
@MarkyyG123 yeah snatched up already! Don't worry I'm waiting for the next wave lol no I think I have a keeper anyways.. ๐๐
