What does he mean by asking me to tag along?

I asked a guy out for drinks with the group but he had to work and told me that I should go to this place he goes to with his friends. I said okay fine how about this other day... but I had no idea what to do so I told him I would let him know.

This isn't the first time that I have asked him out for a casual thing. Again same thing he asked to go with him but I couldn't ditch my original plans (old school friends).

I'm only asking him to casual things because I want to keep things comfortable because whenever it's just him and I, he moves around, gets red and smiles when he sees me. I thought something light would be good and after a couple of drinks he's a bit more calm :)

Is he telling me to tag along with him because he's interested or sees me more as a friend?

He's interested. You're both turning each other down for the same reason—he doesn't know your friends and you don't know his. In other words, you're both trying to avoid a more than likely awkward situation. Drop hints that you want him to ask you out (let him know that you're free during some given day and time, or start talking about some movie or concert or something that you'd like to attend and see if he bites) or come up with some event to which you can ask him to go with you, and if all that fails, then just straight up ask him out.

Ok, key word here is "group". Women do " group". "Group" means safety in numbers to women. "Group" means never having to say you're sorry. If he doesn't like "group", then you have lost nothing, because you haven't risked anything. Women go out to bars and clubs in " group", because group is causual, socially acceptable and safe zone. What it means to a man is that this woman thinks so little of me that she is willing to risk absolutely nothing just to be around me in a casual atmosphere where we really are in nothing more than friend zone. Even worse, the "her friends zone", which is even lower than the friend zone. It won't work because it is cowardice at it's very zennith, which of course, is right where women want it to be when they want to maintain control. It'll only work when you get serious and are willing to risk something. If not, it's just another Thursday.

By group it's my class group so 6 girls and 6 guys. I've been out with his group and all I did was talk to him. Surely he should know that what I was going to do

OK, well maybe that's boring. It's kind of like going out on pizza night with a single's church group. There are few things more antithetical to romance than that. Being with "just friends" subconsciously says "we're pretty buds, huh?" But he doesn't want to be "good buds", he wants to take you out to a meadow under the spring moon and stag your terrain till the cock crow at the eastern Dawn.
