Why would a guy who seems uninterested in you still keep tabs on you?

I have been friends with this guy for 6 years, a couple years ago it seemed like we had feelings for each other, but I made the mistake of not communicating well and he went off and flirted/dated many other girls. Through that time we both disliked each other very much and he even made a point of telling me he would never be interested in me, ever and that hurt, but we still hung around each other because of mutual friends and then life started changing and we hadn't seen each other for a while. Now we are becoming friendly again where we can stand each other and have a good time haning out, but my old feelings came sneaking back in. He on the other hand, has still kept tabs on me and continues to flirt. He also brings up friends who are total losers, that he thinks i should date, but talks about how me and him could be a thing in the future, I guess i am confused on why he would still keep tabs on me and who i should/have dated and if we would have a future and why he still flirts, if he thinks he would never be interested in me?

1) My gut is telling me that Past all his BS and loafing, he's interested in you but hasn't received any type of sign from you that you're really interested in him. Has he asked you out before? If yes, did you turn him down or respond in a way that seemed like a rejection. Do you flirt or interact with any of his "loser" friends the same way you interact with him?

2) Situation he's in may not allow you to date. Have you ever dated one of his close friends seriously? Is he dating someone else right now? If a guy is really interested in a girl, and he definitely knows she is interested, most of us wouldn't ignore or friend zone her for a later date.

You should just go for it and find out one way or the other.

On some level, yes, he is interested, but he's also a soap opera waiting to happen and I mean that in the worst possible sense. Nah... scratch that. He's Jerry Springer material. You don't want to touch that with a ten-foot pole. He probably has some real emotions involved, but that's precisely what makes him a drama king. He doesn't know his heart from his dong. His head is all messed up, and because of that he will rough up your mind like a 7-branched sword in the rectum if you let him. Not worth it.

He is trying to have his cake and eat it too. He wants to act like he's uninterested so you'll keep going after him. That way he can have his main chick and you (and probably other girls too) on the side incase something doesn't work out.

Don't beat around the bush, if you think he likes you then ask him how he feels. But only ask if you would be open to dating him. If you won't date him then don't ask. It will only make things awkward. Cheers

the best advice that I can give you is. It could be two things either he wants just a piece of ass. Or he still hasn't decided what to do. So he wants to keep in touch just in case. Or if anything goes south he has you in case.
