Do all guys size each other up?

A lot of the comments I see on here throw around words like 'alpha' and 'beta' constantly lol. Is that a thing for guys? Like, are you always sizing each other up and establishing an unspoken pecking order? If a new guy enters do you puff up your chest and deepen your voice to establish social dominance or something? What's the deal here

We don't talk about Alphas, and Betas among ourselves normally. That is more or less a way to try and explain men to women, or to explain normal social behavior to socially awkward guys online.

There is an unspoken pecking order anytime a group of guys get together. This is actually a common problem women run into when she joins the group of guys thinking she is the equal of every man there, including the alpha, when she has not yet earned her rank yet. This is why men tend to think respect is earned, and women think respect is something everyone deserves and that she is being disrespected for not yet earning the respect of the men.

Men in the past had to be warriors, and hunters, requiring communication, and a clear sense of leadership. The survival of each man relied on their ability to work together and take orders. This natural hierarchy is also why men tend to work better in groups than women.

This is also why women are more attracted to status than guys are. Women don't have the same natural hierarchy that men have.

Its fairly complex to try and explain. It is a part of our nature, and guys aren't normally aware that we are even doing it. It is a part of being a complex social animal.

Body language is a big part of it. The more confident guys capable of leading show certain body language, while insecure guys show other body language.

Humor is another part of it. Guys often make jokes about one another to test each other, and anytime a guy gets his feelings hurt shows an insecurity and we lose respect. Whereas the stronger men are more likely to laugh it of, or show how clever he is by adding something to the joke making it even funnier.

Noticing how other men react to each other is another part of it. Guys are more likely to agree with the assessment that other men have already made.

The courage to make decisions is also a huge part of it. A lot of people are afraid of making a decision and having everyone else disagree with them, or get angry if his idea doesn't work. I have even seen guys pushed into leadership roles against their will, because other guys were so much less willing to take on the leadership role themselves.

It is very casual, and often goes unnoticed but it is there. There is generally always one guy telling the other guys what they are going to be doing that day. There is often a second leader which is the best friend, that always defends the one in charge. On the bottom is the guy with the least confidence. The more he can't handle a joke about himself, the more the other guys find it funny to tease him. I think this is natures way to either toughen him up, or push him out of the group.

Also, to add the most dominate male is the one who is good at what he does. So, dude A may be great at fighting, so in war he's the go to guy, but dude B may be a better strategist, so others go to him.
No one guy is the best at everything, which is why teams are formed.

Those are just the words people are using. As for sizing each other up... Yes. Absolutely.

Big, muscular guys are the top dogs... because they can kill a smaller guy who doesn't know his place. There's no escaping it. If you have good muscular size, other guys will treat you with respect (because they know you are dangerous) and they won't fuck with you.

And women are more attracted to bigger guys (the only women who aren't are ugly girls who don't believe they can get the more attractive guy, let's not bullshit about this).

So yeah, we size each other up to determine if the other guy is someone we have to respect/fear, or if we are the ones who should be respected/feared.

Very cave-man level behavior of course... but this crap is happening on an unconscious level for all people, and for some, it's conscious. We are animals, and our animal instincts influence are thoughts and behaviors, no question.

The Alpha and Beta thing is just an Internet thing, I never hear guys in real life say stuff like that.
We don't do anything of what you said, unless the guy is insecure and had trouble gaining the trust and respect of the group, so when another guy comes in he feels like he's gonna take over his spot, but like I said, it just happens with insecure guys.

Society actually uses the fact that women are so critical of themselves and each other to profit off it. It's the driving force behind the entire cosmetic, fashion, plastic surgery, and pharmaceutical industry.

We compete indirectly with other males by playing the bullshit female games and doing the shit test women give us before they allow us to have sex with them but we don't battle like alpha lions and shit. Of course there is always a douche bag or three that need to fight to show they are "tough", but in general most guys aren't out comparing themselves to each other.
Women don't "have to" compete more than men, they simply do. You can not deny that you compare yourself to women in real life and on tv and in media constantly. You buy products and clothes, and feed into the propaganda constantly trying to win attention of the opposite sex. (assuming you are straight).
